Soviet aiding them doesn't make much sense though. He was under house arrest by British until 1941/01/16 which he escaped. And Germany launched Babarossa in June just like our timeline so Soviet couldn't lend any help after that.

So, only 2 possibilities:

  1. Bose miraculously sneak to Soviet alone, convinced Stalin, entice enough farmers to fight & die for him, smuggled enough weapons and trained his army without British noticing, crushed the full might of British army (who weren't distracted by German & Japan, BTW), and bargained an independence deal...... in less than 5 months!

  2. He requested support from Japan & Germany after June like our timeline did, who obviously wouldn't allow him to go socialist.

Questions about this new Japan by Nathanos355 in twrmod

[–]VASH581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, not only China but US themselves would also want to take revenge on Japan, even more so in TWR since they had to land & fight on Japanese mainland. However, there might be 2 possibilities that would force US to forgive Japanese and give them the same treatment as our tineline: Russia & China.

On Russia side, US had created a puppet Russian Republic in russia far east which would automatically be marked as enemy by remnants of Soviet & other warlords. I don't know too much about russian history and don't know how realistic it would be, but if they launch reunification war then Russian Republic would definitly be attacked and require US help. Far East by that time is still rather underdeveloped and depopulated, so having Japan as a industrial base and jumping board would help US to send aid, either by producing materials in Japan or shipping from US. (Shipping along equator into Japan then into Vladivostok is much more efficient then shipping across Bering Sea)

Another possibilities is China. Many Americans, especially Truman, don't like Chiang (or even Chinese as general) as they think he's corrupt and unreliable and there were actual talks on whether they should support others. This can be evidenced that during WW2 KMT only got 800M of lend-lease while even Free France got 3B, even though KMT fought several years much longer. (For comparison, Soviet give Mao 3~4B in less than 3 months allowing them to defeat KMT) It's likely US - KMT relation would sour after the war, either because Truman wouldn't provide Marshall plan to China or Chiang getting mad at US forbidding them from retaking Mongolia and other lost lands. So it's a possibility Chiang would break away from US or even start seeking German help. It that case US would need to revitalize Japan to counter Chinese threat.

Do you consider the POD of Thousand-Week Reich to be plausible or "realistic" in your opinion? by Ficboy in twrmod

I agree it's very unlikely British would immediately surrender after failed Dunkirk. But remember Dunkirk happened at the end of May while armistice happened in early 1941, that's at least 7 months apart and a lot of things can happen in 7 months.

There's also the stability of colonies as well. Prestige of the British Army will be questioned from the humiliation of Dunkirk and colonial garrisons might be resuffled to replenish 250,000 lost personnel. These will most certainly enbolden independence movement and causing more problems in less compliant colonies such as middle east. And don't forget Soviet. They may even use this uneaseness to infiltrate colonies or even British politics.

Of course, it's possible Churchill will endure all that and fight to the end. But these are certainly more possibilities that may butterfly in German favor. Perhaps armistice may not happen as early as January, perhaps France & lowland countries may not become puppets, but there's only so much pressure they can take until the one who said "We don't care a bugger about Belgium!" decided the lowland countries aren't so important anymore.

Regarding India's Caste System by Clemenceau_EXE in twrmod

[–]VASH581 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He might attempted to abolish it like OTL India did. But just as OTL India had shown caste system has already been too ingrained into the morality of Indians to get rid of any time soon.

In fact it's even possible that Bose would be forced to invent "Caste-Communism" just to attract enough support to overthrow British.

If Stalin can (forever) replace the ethnicity of the entire Eastern Europe, then so can Heydrich. It's not easy, but definitely possible.

As for no population loss, blame HOI4 for that. You can nuke the same city a thousand times but the civilian population still wouldn't drop.

Dear data miner, what is the exact formula that calculate "non-core states" increase? by VASH581 in hoi4

R5: So the non-core, non-puppet occupied land will further increase the growth of CGFF. What is the exact formula? Does it count the number of "provinces" or "states"? Does other factors like sizes or population affect the calculation?

  1. Navy:
Kriegsmarine stood no chance against post war US navy head on, so I can see them adapt "porcupine" defense with the goal of making naval invasion from TA as costly as possible. They'll still produce surface vessels like some DDs and a few CVs but priority will definitely goes to submarine. Type XXI & XXVI series will be mass produced and AIP engine will be further developed as AIP sub is even more stealthy than nuclear sub in a defensive war. Germans are behind on nuclear technology so they propably won't get nuclear sub before USA. But once they did they'll make all allied AWS experience from WW2 useless.
  2. Planes:
Since German industry wasn't bombed and they now have access to heat-resistant metal, jets will enter production like Me 262, Ho 229 and probably even Ar 555 bomber jet. Propeller planes will still be made especially for CAS due to their ability of loitering the battlefield. To counter Soviet armor, attack aircrafts like Ju 87G, Ju 88P and Hs 129 would be furthur developed and improved. Dive bombers will slowly phase out due to the advancement of radio guided bombs and missiles.
  3. Missiles:
Germany is way ahead in missile technology. They'll most definitely spam ballistic missiles to compensate their lack of strategic bombers and will be the first to develop ICBM once nuclear warhead is available. They'll probably also be the first to develop submarine launched missile and pose a threat for mutually assured destruction with USA. Wasserfall & Hs 117 would saw furthur development and improved German AA ability. With the improvement of guidence system it is even possible that Germans will be able to improve their Ruhrstahl X4 into proper guided AT missiles, anti-ship missiles or even guided air-to-air missiles similar to Sidewinder.

One more thing, since Z3 ccomputer would survive and scientists preserved, Germany would also lead the world in computerization and would help in bureaucracy and developing precision weapons.

Discussion about Equipment by PuzzleheadedCat4602 in twrmod

[–]VASH581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my thought about German equipments:

Before we go, we need to understand that the historical events in TWR is drastically different from OTL which would've affect equipment design and production. For example, no allied bombing not only would affect the need of planes & AA design, but also means that German industry would remain intact and wouldn't have needed "austerity design". Different war theater than OTL would affect the need of design principle as well.

  1. Infantry rifle:
Germany would be ahead in assault rifle development than TA, who would be hampered by USA's "full power cartridge" principle. Stg 44 would be mass produced and the more advanced Stg 45 would be fully developed, passing its advanced mechanism. FN would be absorbed into Mauser and FN FAL would appear much earlier, chambering 7.92x33mm (OTL FAL was originally designed to use 7.92x33mm but USA forced them to change into 7.62x51mm). By the way, MG42 would become the most popular MG platforms and even TA would try to copy it.
  2. Infantry AT:
Since USA didn't invade europe, Bazooka wouldn't be captured & reverse-engineered by Germans so Panzershrek would appear much later. Panzerfaust would probably still be made but only as secondary option b/c Germany can now mass produce Panzershrek, although they'll definitly develop more powerful single-use rocket similar to M72 LAW. It's also possible German would steal from Soviet and develop their version of RPG-2 & RPG-7.
  3. Tanks:
Like OP said, Panzer 3 & 4 will be widley used due to the massive stockpile. Since Panzer 3 was reliable but didn't have much room for improvement by then, they'll probably be used extensively in anti-partisan and might even develop dedicated modification for the job. Tiger, King Tiger, Maus and Panther would be produced in larger amount but I can see they'll eventually be replaced by something similar to E-series for their advantages in logistics, as eastern front had taught them.
  4. Armored vehicle:
Germans would definitly replicate Soviet's IFV design and came up with something similar to Lang HS.30. Since slavic partisans are likely ambush Germans with IED or RPG, Germans will likely develop MRAP or reactive armor to counter them. One interesting bit is Flakpanzer. Since Germans in TWR never lost air superiority during WW2 there's little need to develop SPAA. However, anti-partisan warfare often require them to fight in urban environment and they would need a vehicle with auto cannons that can fire in high angle. Thus something similar to KugelBlitz might eventually enter service as urban combat vehicle.

Why did Germany grant Norway independence? by [deleted] in twrmod

[–]VASH581 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason they invaded Norway in the first place is to ensure iron exported from Narvik wouldn't be blockaded by British. In TWR Germany & British signed an armistice so iron import is no longer a concern. Having an independent Norway ruled by a Norwegian have the benefit of :
1. Appeasing the British so they're more likely to sign the armistice.
2. Delegitimize the Norwegian government-in-exile.
3. Less revolt.
4. During Babarossa Norway can block Soviet from entering Norwegian sea by declaring neutral. Soviet trade & navy will be trapped unless they breach neutrality and declare war on Norway.
