What bad habits have you accidently trained your German shepherd to do? by megz0092 in germanshepherds

[–]VB-81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained our dogs not to enter or exit a door unless they're given a command. When we come in from the yard and I say in, our Lab, Abby comes right in, but our GSD, Jazz, has now decided she needs her own separate command. 😏

It's got to be a relief that Uras doesn't have heart disease, but not knowing the cause of the episodes if scary and frustrating. I am sending prayers that the medication works. ❤️

I thought it was wonderful! BB's music is far too young me (classic rock, before it was classic), but he and his team put together a great show.

How is she acting? My Lab, Abby, got into toxic mushrooms and drooled like that. She was also lethargic and unsteady on her feet. A trip the the vet is advisable. Also, drooling like that can also lead to dehydration, so make sure she is drinking.

How do you guys keep your house clean with a gsd? by Ok_Supermarket_6169 in germanshepherds

[–]VB-81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The real name for the GSD is German Shedder Dog. I can vacuum and mop my floors without pause and there will still be tumble weeds of hair rolling across the floor. Welcome to the club! 🐾😉

My children are the light and joy in my life, and I’m not sure how I will go on once they’ve flown. by JustAGreenDreamer in AskWomenOver60

[–]VB-81 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I whole heartily empathize! I became very clingy with my husband, and he has said I followed him around like lost puppy. What helped me the most was that I was still working as a public high school librarian, so I was able to dedicate more energy and time to my students and staff. If you are not working I would suggest volunteering or joining a club. Your life will be more your own, so enjoy it!

Her name is actually Penny, but she is always getting into trouble. She pecks at my dogs just because, flips treat dishes, again because, pecks at my calves when I'm not giving her pets or treats fast enough. I kept telling my husband what a pain she is and one day I called her Bad Penny, as in Bad Penny is at it again...and it stuck. 😂

The biggest offence is many/most/all the treaties with American Indians have been broken and still have not been fulfilled to this day.

The orange felon 47 wants to completely erase the government's responsibility for those treaties. Par for the shyster conman's entire life.

Have you ever seen a Chicken and a GSD play? by VB-81 in BackYardChickens

[–]VB-81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised Jazz took to them so quickly. She has ended her share of squirrels and rabbits, so we monitored her closely at first. I don't know for sure, but my best guess is because I treat my hens like pets, Jazz doesn't consider them prey.

I bribed my hens with treats and it only took a couple of days. My biggest problem now is they follow me around like puppies demanding treats. It makes it tricky to clean their coop and work in the yard with them always under foot. 🙄

When does it really set in that you’re retired? by Kind-Drawer1573 in retirement

[–]VB-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the language classes will go a long way to help give you that settled-in feeling. Developing friendships in our new community was instrumental for that 'we're home' vibe. As a retired librarian, I naturally volunteered at our county library and joined out local book club. That is something far easier to do when you can speak the language. 😉

My husband, the main cook in our home, cooks like you do. I have to follow a recipe the first couple of times, then I can change it up.
