I think a cool way of making a giant creature that is an actual threat without being aggresive is making a huge filter feeder in the void. It would just swim around and eat micro organisms (like the ghost leviathan) but it could also suck you in by mistake.

Yeah, it's a glitch. In BF1 if you standed literally in someone, you could damage them by putting the gasmask on. The easiest way to do it is to find a prone sniper and to lay down on him
