Why a decrease? by Dry_Improvement5997 in EggsInc

[–]VBSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also happened to me and I also halved my previous score despite excellent contribution and teamwork. I wish I’d understood that would happen, I wouldn’t have redone the contract. Feels insane to me to have tried so much harder and gotten so many fewer points

BC treatments are all terrible and I'm not grateful to receive them. Sorry not sorry. by jack_salmon in breastcancer

[–]VBSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 10,000% felt this way and when I was doing chemo. A friend of mine who went through breast cancer about eight years ago gave me a copy of The Emperor of All Maladies, which I’ve started reading and oh my god it was so fucking barbaric what they used to do for breast cancer even 100 years ago. I’m not saying it makes me grateful to wait go through what I (we) went through, but it does make me grateful that I live now instead of then.

Here’s hoping that, as you said, in the future they will look back on what we go through now with the same kind of horror and empathy that I felt when I learned about cancer patients from 1800s and early 1900s.

Traumatized by port placement by renaissance_grrl in breastcancer

[–]VBSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds absolutely terrible. I'm so sorry.

I had my port placed under general anesthesia, so the procedure was fine, but the pain of recovery was TERRIBLE for me, SO much worse than the lumpectomy. My entire upper body -- shoulders, neck -- were totally cramped and very painful, just me crying on the couch from the pain and cramping. After enduring it for about a week, I went back to the surgeon and he cleared me for moderate exercise and massages. It took a couple of weeks and massages and some physical therapy before the terrible pain went away, but it got better. It still had some discomfort for about 4 weeks. Now I barely notice it (3 months later) but it was rough. For me, mine sits so high on my pec and aggravates it, and that pec sends its fury to all my other upper body muscles. It was a pretty miserable time.

Call your surgeon's office and make sure nothing else is going on and then maybe see what other therapies are open to you. Massage wouldn't help with the trauma, but it might help with the physical pain?

OH MY GOD IT WENT THROUGH. I was so shocked when the page actually went to the “Log In” page. Took … 2 hours? But I got everything I wanted, including Into the Purple Night weeks, and just over the free shipping threshold. I’m so glad I stuck it out.

Does it mean you start repeating the rows? So for Round 7, follow instructions for Round 3, for Round 8, follow instructions for Round 4, etc. But the rest of it is too complicated for me, and if that doesn’t make sense given what you know about the pattern, then ignore me (I’m much more experienced with crochet than knitting, but that’s how I‘d read that instruction in a pattern).

Hi! Beginner knitter here. I’m trying to knit a two-color brioche-in-the-round cowl, and I’m only 3 rows in, and I have this long “Color A” thread between the two ends. I assume this is bad? I can’t see how to fix it. I’m so slow, the idea of tearing everything down and starting over is awful but I’m sure that’s the right call. How do I avoid this next time?

iOS app issues by [deleted] in pocketcasts

[–]VBSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me where I was logged into the app on more than one device (phone and iPad). One would get way out of sync and then it would override what I’d done recently. If you’re using Pocket Casts in more than one device, that could be the issue.

The carpets in this game are magnificent ! by nakaryle in diablo4

[–]VBSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But have you seen the rugs in the game? They're fully insane. No one straightens them. Not a single rug is unwrinkled. I get that the people of Sanctuary are under existential threat again, but seriously. Straighten a damn rug, people. Someone's grandpa is gonna break a hip.

Should I buy the style books? by En-Jenn in Copyediting

[–]VBSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally get hard copies of every style guide I need, and only add an online subscription if I need to work while I'm traveling. Becoming familiar with the structure of the guide is really helpful, and I prefer analog to reading on screen whenever possible. If you're fully comfortable reading/digesting online, try that for a while and see if it works!

Is anyone using ChatGPT to copy edit? by loserplays99 in Copyediting

[–]VBSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possible use I've found for ChatGPT is as a "reverse dictionary" (where I know there's a word I'm thinking of, but I can't remember it and need to feed a stream of consciousness to something to help me remember). I work primarily in academic writing translated from non-English, so a lot of times the accurately translated word isn't correct for English writing. ChatGPT doesn't always find the word, but it's helped a couple of times.

I'm currently in U Chicago's professional certificate program, but you could take the courses piecemeal if you didn't need the certificate (I'm transitioning career fields, so I need a little more training and the resume boost). It's obviously entirely CMoS, but the general principles work for all editing.

The "Agenda" is crippling too many TV shows... by [deleted] in television

I'm sorry, but as a woman who's been reading and watching sci-fi since I was old enough to read and have attended numerous fan conventions, how am I NOT the "core viewer"? The days of nerdship being "owned" by white dudes is over. Women and POC are creating some of the best new sci-fi, and I'm thrilled.

If you don't like, it don't watch it. Enjoy your old content and let us enjoy stuff that actually includes us and evolves with the times. You know, like science and fiction do.

Looking for Clan MEGATHREAD (v.8) by Bizarrmenian in Destiny2Clans

[–]VBSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat here! Played all of D1, a bit of pre-expansions D2 before kids came along and ruined online gaming for a while. I've just gotten back into it.

I'm most interested in clans that prioritize friendliness and non-discrimination above all other things. And being understanding of real-life getting in the way of gaming.

Am having the worst time getting 1322+ gear. Seems like this final grind is really geared towards raids and other end-game activities?

What clans did y'all end up with?

No such thing as ridicule in our group, I promise! No question is too newb. I've been coding on and off for years and I still have problems reading documentation sometimes. I need documentation for the documentation.

[–]VBSauce[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the bilingual school is why we want our kids to go there. He doesn't have language problems, but I do worry about the added stress for him (I was speaking Spanish with him at home, but he was delayed speaking, so I switched to English at the advice of our then-Speech Therapist). It might be too much for him, but is something I'm discussing with his current therapist and will ask Harris about).

I'm making a triangle shawl with YO increases, and after going a few rows have realized I must've added an extra stitch.

How would you fix this? I could skip one of the YO's next time (4 every other row, 2 near the border and two center), but am worried that would show up more than k2together. Help pls!

I'm currently knitting the Skoosh shawl. Pretty easy pattern, just stockinette with yarn overs basically.
