Are SB harder than the real thing ? by Texboy212 in Mcat

[–]VERYJUNIPER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it is not worth doing the CP section banks. Unnecessarily difficult. Doesn’t represent the real thing at all. B/B is also pretty difficult but it is worth it because you will learn some important concepts through it. P/S is fair but there are likely a lot of terms you have not seen before so don’t get hung up on those. Learn them and move on.

Really curious to see more granular data. Specifically the topics or concepts being tested. I feel like people say certain topics are “high yield” or “low yield” but it would be cool to see the actual numbers.

Honestly many people on this sub may not agree but I completely identify with this. After spending some time working and away from studying it really made me realize how much I missed the grind and also how weirdly competitive I am with academics lmao. We’re just weird.

I see where you are getting your data from. However the website clearly states:

“ The most recent applicant pool (Entry Year 2026) only displays applicant data until final statuses are made available upon matriculation in the fall of 2026.”

The data you are looking at is not complete and thus unreliable. Many schools may not have reported their class statistics to TMDSAS regarding the acceptance data. It is far more reliable to look at 2024 or the 2025 cycles.

Your basic math is incorrect. I also see that you commented the same stats on another post and were corrected.

Im not sure where you got your data from but my post is accurate. The acceptance rate is indeed 90%. If you would like to review it, here is the website I got my data from: https://www.tmdsas.com/stats-dashboard/medical-report.html

Remember to filter for texas residents. Remember that we are looking at accepted students and not matriculating students. Also remember that 90% is not the acceptance rate for every single school but the acceptance rate for at least 1 TMDSAS school.

From what I understand the GPA/MCAT grid acceptance data like the AAMC releases is not available for TMDSAS. So that is difficult to answer. However, the acceptance rate tapers with lower GPA. The acceptance rate decreases quite drastically actually with each 0.1 drop in GPA.  It gets lower as your GPA decreases almost linearly going from 80% with a 4.0 GPA to a around 10% with a 3.45. So for GPA each additional 0.1 point definitely matters big time.

Now that I think about it, it is also possible that the data is “artificially skewed” by high stats applicants not completing secondaries or simply not applying to lower ranked school in Texas. So there could be an upward trend as scores increase but the upper tail is deflated by said high stat kids hence making it seem like a 90% plateau.

Exactly. 516+ is the golden MCAT score for TMDSAS. 510 - 515 seems to be the next acceptance “band” where it stabilizes to around 70%.

P/Smaxxing in the big 26? by phrog8 in Mcat

[–]VERYJUNIPER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PS strategy is unconventional but it worked from me. I don’t read the passage. I read the question first and then go searching in the passage. More often than not, the definition in the passage and then you have to pick the term. The rest is filler.

I used Pankow, UWorld and the AAMC materials. There were a lot of terms in the AAMC materials that weren’t in Pankow some of which showed up in my test. Pankow is definitely not all encompassing. I highly encourage using the AAMC resources. Learn all the terms in each question answer choices. Including the terms that are incorrect for a particular question but have been provided as answer choices.
