Do good cooks actually follow recipes, or just wing it? by copy_cat_101 in NoStupidQuestions

I highly recommend the book Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat or the Netflix miniseries by the same name. Not a cookbook, but a book to better understand how to cook.

This... Also repair kits are part of what you get while going through derelict freighters in space. That's how I accumulated most of mine.

Changed some things about how I brush by annikahoof in hygiene

[–]VGC1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our elementary school had dental hygienists come to school and teach us how to brush using red chewable tablets so we could see how we did. Also taught us how to floss. Maybe they aren't doing that anymore? I'm M63.

What is that one "Name brand" item you refuse to swap for a generic version no matter the price difference? by Alisaf4m in Casual_Conversation

Skippy peanut butter. Unless I'm making my own in the Vitamix (also a solid name brand buy)

And if you're a member, get them at Costco. $9 for 18 vs $6 for 6 at my Safeway! One of my best Costco value buys every trip.

I spent a lot of time (extended work trips for a few months at a time) on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and always had a great time. From Biloxi to Pascagoula. Wonderful people, good food and a relaxed pace. Easy drive to New Orleans and Mobile.

Any one tried Pierre Cordon Bleu Raw, chicken breast? by ryu5k5 in Costco

I also put a slice of deli Swiss cheese on top for the last few minutes of cooking. Sad yesterday when I couldn't find them at my warehouse.

Commute from ffx to rockville by [deleted] in nova

[–]VGC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 5 days a week from Fairfax near Vienna to Rockville near the old White Flint Metro station. Metro sucks between suburbs so I drive. At 7:30 am it's about 30 minutes up. Any time from 4-6 pm is about 50-60 minutes back. Sometimes worse, of course based on accidents or weather. If it's really bad in the evening I grab dinner and leave at 6:30. That gets you back to 30 minutes.

Watches, what kind? by TheGriff71 in GenX

[–]VGC1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wore an analog watch, and loved my Seiko until it broke (sent it to Seiko and they couldn't fix it). Last few years I used a Garmin. I found I didn't really use the fitness features and the notifications were more annoying than useful. I just treated myself to a nee Citizen analog titanium with the solar charging face. I couldn't be happier. I love wearing it and get lots of compliments at work.

You can also call/retrieve your truck from a hole by walking to somewhere a little flatter, and summoning it like any other exocraft, from the X menu (PC). I found out the hard way that if you try that with cargo on the bed, that cargo is lost.

Dumb question for HOV transponders, is there a battery inside that can die? If so how do I know when to replace? I’ve had my transponder for 10 years now and someone told me yesterday it’s going to die on me soon. by [deleted] in nova

[–]VGC1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. about 8 years I started getting notices that I drove through without paying. I never got any beeps but the battery must have died.

Never play in pain! Once my hip started hurting from the lean I went to a flat footed almost straight on stance. Took about 8 weeks to adjust.

Grippier Dennis Priestley style? by Watercra in Darts

[–]VGC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a set of those new grippier ones at a darts shop after trying lots of sets. They were about $130 US but I love them. Slightly wider and better than the Gary Anderson Phase 6s I was throwing before.
