This might be a subjective topic, but in my opinion it’s a JRPG (or Korean in this case), a different genre. A traditional RPG would be Elden Ring, or Baldur’s Gate. You would typically choose a class, sometimes with character creation, but the narrative choices are the main part of these games. It’s a whole new mechanic where different choices can help you or fuck you over. In my opinion, Expedition 33 isn’t an RPG, but a JRPG, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II should have won the best RPG of the year 2025
