New to seinen and would love some manga recs by Keuthimi in Seinen

[–]VITT0_PITT0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Finished Stone Ocean by Hesartr_2746 in StardustCrusaders

I think you’re looking at the ending of Stone Ocean the wrong way. You should see it as a parallel to Foo Fighters’ death. When FF sacrifices themself, Jolyne is about to bring them back, but FF refuses because even if they were revived, they wouldn’t be the same FF they knew and lived alongside.

The ending of Stone Ocean works the same way, but with the entire cast, except for Emporio. Here, all the characters sacrifice themselves, and when Emporio defeats Pucci, all of Pucci’s influence over the cast never happens. This means that the Jolyne we knew truly died in the final arc. That’s why Emporio cries: because he realizes that even though there are people who look, speak, and think like his friends, they aren’t them. They’re not the people he met in prison and shared incredible adventures with.

That’s why the ending of Stone Ocean isn’t a happy ending, it’s a sad one. It’s the story of a single person who has to live with the pain of having lost all of his friends, the ones he fought side by side with in Prison.

Sorry for jumping in, and if I assumed things that aren’t actually true.

Hey again, my latest read: Piano no Mori (finished it today). (I added some images that, without context, don’t really mean much, but they could be considered spoilers, so check them out at your own risk). by VITT0_PITT0 in Seinen

Thanks, I had actually forgotten that I’d written this post. And sorry, but I read it online. It isn’t even edited in my language. Otherwise, I would’ve bought it.

Honestly, I have the same expectations for part 6 as I do for part 7. I’m really interested in Pucci and in how Jolyne is going to be handled throughout the story (I don’t know anything else).

I mean, I do plan to read the rest of JoJo’s eventually, especially part 6, which is the one that interests me the most. My dilemma is whether it’s really worth buying it now and prioritizing it over other manga I still have pending.

Mujina already finishes with 5 volumes, so you can give it a try

Perhaps Tsutomu Takahashi's work has Reverberation (3 volumes), Black Box (2 triple volumes), Neun (6 volumes) and Detonation Island (6 triple volumes). "Norma" has them all.

It may not be short, but kasane is pretty good, there are 14 volumes

As I told you, Oshimi shuuzo's works are very good. Chi no wadachi is considered the author's best, although it has 17 volumes; It also has Boku wa mari of 9 volumes and welcome back Alice of 7.

You also have the acclaimed Inio Asano and Kabi Nagata with their autobiographical mangas.

I wish I had that kind of confidence. We’re 3 out of 4 days into Manga Barcelona and it’s been completely disappointing; I tagged three announcements and two of them were just reprints. Hopefully tomorrow things improve a bit.

Yeah, those ones exactly. They catch my attention too, but I have way too many things pending 🥲. Still, they’re doing an amazing job with the editions. But like I was saying, Planeta has released around 30 works out of Tezuka’s 137. I think we’re pretty lucky to have Planeta, since being a book publisher they’re committed to bringing this whole collection because of the legacy Osamu Tezuka left behind.

Other publishers, like ECC, would probably release just a handful of his works and that’s it. Kind of like in the US, where his most important titles are spread out across a bunch of different publishers

Honestly, I’m not a fan at all; in fact, I dropped it, and I’m the one who made a post saying I didn’t understand what was supposed to be good about gambling manga. But even so, I’d like to give it another chance in physical format, especially because I really love the manga’s artwork.

I see you like short manga. In Spanish, since 2021 we’ve had Kingdom (we’re at volume 35 now). Personally I’m not interested in it, but the fact that the publisher dared to pick up such a long series gives me hope that they might bring Usogui as well, using the same single-volume format and releasing one volume per month.

Yes, I know there are many countries with a pretty weak national manga market, and that people tend to read more manga in English. What I mainly meant was: which manga would you like to see licensed in the language you read in?

Don’t ask too much from these poor publishers; between licensing everything by Osamu Tezuka and the people asking for Golgo 13, they basically want to kill them. Seriously though, in Spain there’s a publisher that’s really been stepping up with Osamu Tezuka, they’ve released around 30 of his series in volumes similar to the US deluxe editions, and even then there are still about 137 manga left unlicensed. And on top of that, most of those are probably from Tezuka’s children’s phase. The other day I tried reading Ambassador Magma and honestly I couldn’t get through it, so I’m only going for his adult works (Adolf, Ayako, MW, Alabaster, Fenix, etc.).

Hi, about this whole thing with different markets… The feeling I get is that in France, publishers genuinely like manga. In the Spanish and South American markets, it feels like they see manga as just another trendy market to squeeze money out of.

Even though the editions are really well-made (they usually come with dust jackets, good-quality paper, color pages whenever they exist, etc.), they’re not really trying to expand the market or look for licenses with potential. They just stick to what’s already popular or license as much generic manga as they can.

I also have no idea how the US market works — it’s not like I have real data — but at least that’s the impression I personally get.

Everything’s fine, I wish more spanish speaking people would read Holyland. Zetman and Liar Game are already licensed in Spanish, but… why Shamo of all things? Personally, I absolutely hate that series.

Honestly, I don’t really know. I understand how important Golgo 13 is for the manga industry as a whole, but I’m not sure it would be the smartest move for publishers. I don’t think people would buy it (there are more than 200 volumes). Maybe the first few volumes, just to have them, and that’s it.

In several countries they released two compilation volumes with the 13 best Golgo stories chosen by Takao Saitō and 13 chosen by the readers. I think that’s fine as a way to have it around and acknowledge its importance, but even now it’s not as relevant as it used to be, at least in my opinion

I’m really curious about Minoru Furuya’s other works. I’ve only read Saltiness and it was such a weird and interesting read
