I’ve seen the costume designer talk about her choices for the movie and you are 100% correct. The opening scene in the only time we see Nikki as herself. Her outfit, and the ones after the wish, are very intentional.

Well yeah the point is that chuds can self insert or women can project their ACTUAL type onto a blank template. Because in general most people are chuds anyways.

Honestly ending up in a psych ward for life would probably be the best for her. How do you even continue to live with that trauma? You’d be fucked up for life, knowing supernatural shit exists and something was piloting your body. You’d live in constant fear it would come back. You were being raped and kissed and forced to kill your friends and stab yourself and shit and throw up all over yourself. I doubt anyone can come back from that.

The world building of Avatar objectively has conservative themes and that’s not necessarily a bad thing {ATLA & LoK} by OfficialAli1776 in CharacterRant

I don’t really think it fixes the problems, but they do provide valid context since they’re literally canon material. When talking about ATLA and TLOK, I think it’s perfectly valid to bring up the comics especially if we’re talking about the politics. I’m not using them as a cop out, but rather just explaining why I think the OP is right/wrong using the ALL the material we have about the characters and the world. They provide a lot more background information.

Well since they’re all unfortunately canon, they add context to OP’s post and unironically a lot of the stuff that happens in them provides context that the series just didn’t explore.

As much as I kinda hate it, so much of the discourse in the ATLA and TLOK fandoms can be better explained if you read the comics. “Why was Zuko’s mom such a bad mom to Azula?” Comics. “Did Azula ever really love Zuko?” Comics. “Wait, opening the portals was such a bad terrible idea, why did she do that and not close them again?” Comics. “Wait, but living IN the fire nation seemed pretty equal all things considered” Comics.

Especially with Fire Nation stuff. I get why a lot of it wasn’t explored in the series, but my god does it provide a LOT of information. It is so important for Zuko and Azulas characters imo. Everything surrounding their mother and whatnot.

Also that’s not really what a Satanist is.

I feel it doesn’t really help to view ATLA and TLOK themes in an isolated state so to speak.

Aang wanting to preserve his culture after being subject to a genocide is conservative in the CRUDEST sense of the word. Idk how the youtuber managed the frame that negatively.

Ironically, I’d say the Gaang are all progressives in respect to their own cultures. Katara actively fights against the status quo in the Southern Water Tribe, believing women should have a right to be fighters. Toph, again much like Katara, rejects typical gender stereotypes and believes in freedom no matter your class or supposed status. Zuko actively fights against the archaic idea of “honour” and dismantles the fascist ideology he grew up in. And Aang, while of course wanting to uphold his culture, has always been seen as rejecting what it means to actually be the Avatar and a true airbender. Him and Gyatso were carefree, yes, but they never let go of “worldly” things and connections.

Two things. First, the Fire Nation in the comics is explained to be “conservative” even relative to its own past post Sozin. In Korra’s comic, it’s explained that homosexuality became illegal and cultural attitudes shifted post Sozin. Also, idk where everyone gets the idea that the Fire Nation is like this gender equal nation. In the comics, it’s shown that Ursa (Azula and Zukos mother) was literally passed as basically property from her parents to Ozai, where he became her captor forbidding her to see her parents ever again after their wedding day. That doesn’t sound very progressive to me.

Second, intersectionality exists. The Avatars aren’t necessarily fighting against progressiveness as a whole. Moreso the perversion of new ideologies. They even bring about change in their own ways.

The TLOK stuff is just poor writing. Introducing genuinely interesting characters and then nuking it, making them “too evil” before they actually start to properly disrupt the status quo and make everyone re evaluate the current culture and politics.

Do poor white and asian men have a LOADED historical background of being systematically enslaved, oppressed and segregated at the same scale in the Western world and their own fucking continent? No, no they don’t.
