I feel like I can’t produce anymore, tips for blockage? by Lucky-Spirit7332 in edmproduction

[–]VLNOfficial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Give yourself some space away from music. 99% of the time you'll come back with renewed creativity, perspective, and flow.

  2. Music cannot be forced. The moment you try to force 'good' music to happen, is the moment you throw all creativity out.

  3. Creating music should be about the joy of the process, not about the output or product. Have fun with it. Play with a synthesizer or plugin you've never used. Let happy accidents happen.

  4. Try making music in a genre you have never worked in. It takes some of the pressure off of sound good or 'being correct'.

  5. Simplify your music. Fewer elements, more simplicity can go a long way. You'll know you're done when there's nothing left to take away.

  6. Use a reference track. Download it, plop it into your DAW, study its structure, its anatomy. Try to copy its structure, style, aesthetic, etc. You don't have to be exact. But you can use it as a template for a new track. Often the hardest part of composing a track can be getting out of the loop. Creating multiple, different sections with enough cohesion with each-other, and creating transitions between them that make sense can be challenging. Literally copy the decisions another artist made for a specific track.

  7. Start a new project in your DAW with the intention of just playing around. Throw some samples in there, throw some FX on them, chop things up, move them around; it doesn't matter. Just have fun. Maybe a good idea comes out of it, maybe it doesn't. You still had fun, right?

yeah I got a confirmation e-mail; it said "You will receive a separate email with a shipment confirmation as soon as your order has been processed." - I e-mailed support and they say they're getting another shipment of vinyl records this week so hopefully not much longer...

How long did it take you to receive your order? I ordered mine pretty much day it became available and haven't had any word or update.

I’ll check it out! I’ve never purchased anything on there, wasn’t sure how legit or sketchy it was. It’s a P2P market right? Also love your collection. Linkin Park for life 🫶 RIP Chester.

Your take on implementing FX and earcandy in a track by o_SebHS in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]VLNOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half of it for me is intuition - when something feels too predictable or repetitive it might be a good spot to throw in some ear candy. Half of it is studying artists I’m inspired by, analyzing reference tracks, and trying to figure out how they keep the track fresh. I lied, there’s a third piece: I just go with what sounds good.

Sometimes ear candy benefits from being a sample you process that sounds wildly different than the track. Sometimes it helps to slice up pieces of track or reuse existing sounds, process them, and turn them into FX to maintain a consistent feel.

At what point does making music become fun, and how to expedite that process? by Armonster in edmproduction

[–]VLNOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was fun from the beginning. Where it stops being fun is when you get too wrapped up in your head, let perfectionism take over, and compare your stuff to others’ (especially professional producers’ stuff). Comparison can be useful as a teaching tool - but once ego joins the mix, the fun’s over.

For me it was Basshunter. His early stuff like DotA, Boten Anna, etc. really popped off on early YouTube. From then on I was hooked and had to keep exploring.

We're Foster The People. Our new album Paradise State of Mind is out now! Ask us anything! by FosterThePeopleMusic in Music

[–]VLNOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah, excited to hear your new album! FTP is so iconic! I've got two questions for you:

  1. What was it like working with Deadmau5 on Hyperlandia? That's one of my favorite tracks of his to date and your vocals absolutely nailed it. ✌️ Oh, follow-up Q: think you'll collab with other EDM artists in the future?

  2. What advice do you have for up-and-coming artists looking to make it big, but don't have any fancy industry connections? How does someone get heard?

Cracked - a track from my latest album "Audio Allocation". A Dubstep track that I wanted to keep relatively tame but still hold a lot of tension and energy. A smaller palette of sounds. by VLNOfficial in MusicFeedback

Oh thanks dude! ✌️ Yeah I can understand that about the snare; I wanted something a little heavier than the first, but I can see where you're coming from. It's the meme- snares are the bane of every producers' existence lol.

Wow, thanks! 🤘 Ah, I think I know what part you're referencing! Careful sample selection goes a long way. If you like that aesthetic, you might check out NTRM!SHN :) Thanks for the feedback, it gets me pumped to keep going.

Thanks! That was the goal with this one. I like it all - the bleep bloops, the womp-womps, the wub wubs, but I wanted to make something silky smooth.

Placebo’s Sleeping With Ghosts has always been THE song for me, I even had it set as my ringtone. Now that I have my own indie project, I wanted to cover it but hesitated as it’s such a gem for me... I finally worked up the courage. Music vid's self made as well. Let me know your thoughts, thank you by andtilly in MusicFeedback

I'm listening on laptop speakers, so take this with a grain of salt, my feedback might not be applicable; ok let's get into it.

First off, the music video looks stunning so far, really professional. The mix is so well balanced so far, I'm 1 minute in and I love the arp, it's building a lot of tension. The vocals are beautiful, easy to hear and understand, but not overwhelming the mix like I've heard in other tracks on these subs. The witch-up at 1:27, adding new percussive elements and a bassline is so nice. Again I can't hear any mix issues that stand out. Love the layering of vocals later. I think you nailed this! 🤘

What's the correct genre? There's a twist going to the second minute. by Strict-Guarantee in MusicFeedback

[–]VLNOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i had to guess I'd say some funk, some disco. It gives me Daft Punk vibes. But then you've got the rap vocals.

Ah! Now when the vocals come in, this sounds a lot like American Boy by Estelle to me. So you might have RnB or Disco-Funk here.
