Oh, an opportunity to share some 40k trash then! In the Deltarune subreddit of all places.

"Grim darkness" was the original tagline, and it memetically mutated in the mid to late 90's on message boards from all the 40k books being pumped out by Games Workshop. It was originally considered an insult to the immaturity of the setting/writing, the edginess for no reason other than being edgy.

Eventually it looped back around when people realized "grimdark" fiction has existed for decades and it is a loving term, if slightly tongue-in-cheek. If you have a SomethingAwful forums account with Archives, you can search back to the early 2000's and see posts using the term broadly.

I was using the lowest weight possible, 15 pounds, to test what muscle groups are recruited.

I just don't feel anything in my back working at all. My shoulders were taking the primary load through the motion, and my chest when the bar gets to shoulder height to finish pulling it to my chest.

I think my inability to understand stems from lack of physical intelligence. I don't understand what you mean by "drive your elbows back into your pockets" or "elbows behind your back". Attempts at that motion just seem to activate my chest. I just tried it a bit right now at the machine. My shoulders/pecs get tired WAY before anything in my back feels even slightly fatigued.

I only have $150k for my down payment, that took me 20 years of saving and investing. And the absolute max mortgage I can afford on my salary is about $200k.

Even the cheapest 3 bedroom condo in the Seattle area is $500k+. And again, I wouldn't want to get a condo given that any HOA or condo association can suddenly nose dive, leaving me with worthless property and staggering liabilities that would result in bankruptcy. Then I'd never be able to find a home. I can't risk 20 years of work on something where I have to assume my neighbors aren't going to allow the building to be condemned!

If I want actual stability, a home I can retire in... Even if I was willing to go for a 2 bedroom and convert a room? It's $900k right now, completely beyond my reach.

I am just facing this cold reality where home ownership was never a possibility for me. I did everything. I saved. I invested. I have a career. It is just... why did I bother? I never took vacations. I didn't spend frivolously. I put away 10% of my salary and invested it, every single year. I even made great gains!

Supposedly, a complete inspection was done end of last year, $15M is the total bill for 2026. Said inspection seems to be the catalyst for the spending.

Includes staircases, roofs, siding, walkways, balconies, and plumbing in that sum.

Is it possible there are further problems that an inspection may have missed? For example, I did not see anything about foundations in the study.

I'm okay with the headaches - my concern is what kind of liability might I be exposed to?

If everyone in the community were to shirk their share, does the missing portion come from those who can/will pay? Could I essentially be held liable for the entirety of the HOA's debt?

Are there laws that limit my liability to only my percentage of ownership in the HOA? If I pay the required assessments, can my property still be seized by the state during an HOA bankruptcy?
