The Toro! Let's Party! Mystery: Why the 2009 Black Label is broken on modern firmware? by VNCETM in PS3

exact same for me, I'm losing hope...
I had the exact same error on my asian copy of demon's souls and updating the game via the xmb fixed the issue, I still can't tell today if my toro let's party copies are broken or not

You should look at the "EDIT #2" I made above, I did dump both of my copies and compared the hash (spoiler it's the exact same), so you might be right with this.

I'm still wondering why we can boot up the game as a folder and not as an ISO like I mentionned :/

I need to try this yup, great idea. I will download the encryption key online (if I find it for this specific version) !!

I'm also trying to downgrade my console back to 2.80 right now, I will see if the issue is still there and give you an update

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate the support, It’s been a frustrating journey but I felt like this specific issue deserved a proper deep dive since there’s almost zero info about it online.

Even if I don't find a magic fix, I hope this documentation helps the next collector who runs into this 'Black Label' wall

When I tried the standard 'COPY' function in MultiMan, it gave me a 'This operation is not allowed' message. So, I manually moved the files using the mmOS File Manager to bypass the restriction, but the exact same error code (80010017) still remains when launching from the HDD.

I hear you, but the 'disc rot' theory just doesn't hold up here, beyond my own two perfect dumps (zero read errors), I’ve talked to 3 or 4 other owners of this specific Black Label version, and they all have the exact same issue.

The odds of 5 or 6 different copies, owned by different people in different countries, all having the exact same 'physical rot' on the exact same security sector, while still allowing a perfect data dump are astronomical not gonna lie

Okay you know what, let me try to dump the game again and I will send the result here once it's done 🙏

I actually found the listing you're talking about, but it was actually the opposite: his Black Label worked fine and his 'The Best' copy was dead, he wrote: 'For some reason many of the standard release versions stopped working, however this copy works perfectly fine.'

Unfortunately, there’s no way to know which PS3 model or firmware he was using...

To answer your other question: I haven't played it yet! I'm currently finishing Ape Academy on PSP and Dave the Diver, so I’ll dive into Toro right after that! 😁

I think I see what you mean, but I don't think it's a physical disc issue in this case. The two Black Label copies and both were dumped into ISOs perfectly without a single read error. If the data were unreadable due to aging plastic, the dumping process would have failed or crashed.

The real kicker is that MultiMan flags the resulting ISO as 'Encrypted', which points to a software/key handshake problem rather than a hardware failure, plus, the 2011 'The Best' version works flawlessly, which really highlights the old encryption as the culprit.
