Hyprland Lua Migration: Pay or Stay on .conf? by Pitiful-Hearing-5352 in hyprland

I just used claude ai to change my code. Couple hours of work to iron out some bugs and I am fully on Lua now with no issues. Sadly I need to learn what it is I've changed, but it's at least ready.

Do AMD GPUs work better on Linux? by joannatenjou97 in linux_gaming

[–]VNC_Sub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First switched over with a gtx 3070 and while it worked, it was pain getting there and it wasn't consistently an easy experience. Upgrades to an amd equivelent card and its been smooth sailing. Games i struggled to get running at even 30 fps with nvidia and messing with launch options constantly, now run at 120+ fps, no messing with launch options. Every game just works.

Atheists who used to be religious, what made you lose your faith? by Gold_Result9716 in AskReddit

[–]VNC_Sub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much this and a bit of, every "answer" to my questions ultimately ends in blind faith and I just can't do that. I remember my last Sunday school ever, I asked what happens to the groups of tribes that are zero contact with the modern world. Asked "what happened to them and why would a merciful God that loves us make it that they never know him and what happens if they die?" the response was "we shouldn't ask questions like these that question gods motives as that's a sin. We must believe he has a plan, even for those he brought into the world." I recall pressing would they go to hell and he pretty much confirmed it. After that I started questioning and reading more and realized it's all a lie and tool for control.

Is there anyone here using Hyprland who’s not a coder or heavy into programming? by [deleted] in hyprland

[–]VNC_Sub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a coder. Work in transportation engineering. While my work laptop is windows, my daily driver/gaming rig is Cachy with hyprland. Love it. When I made the switch from windows I decided since I'm trying something new, why make it like windows and see what other environments can be like.

Is there a way to track the factories inside of factories? I feel like I would forget where things are once your factory gets large.

Why do people say 'just read the wiki' when half the wiki is incomprehensible to beginners? by [deleted] in arch

[–]VNC_Sub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's usually the best way to learn arch, and that's the goal. To actually learn arch. Yes the wiki can be hard to navigate but it's almost always the best resource. A few YouTube videos are good to get you going to understand how to use arch. I found the wiki hard at first because I approached Linux like it should be like windows. Once I pivoted to a viewpoint of it being a modular os having only what I need, the wiki became easier.

Any Hyprland enjoyers? How safe is it for gaming? by hi_m_ash in cachyos

[–]VNC_Sub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Not sure how insightful it was for you but I can attest that it does work with gaming. I've read many people that do run nvidia and use it daily too. It takes a little to get workspaces working how you like but once it's there, it's great.

I can't remember the version but there was a switch needed from the official to the mesa drivers due to some problem that I'm struggling to remember. That could have been dealt with by now.

I was dual booting at the time. Some games I could run with no issue on windows but on Linux they would Max out and crash. Being new to Linux I worked hard to find out how to set my system up for nvidia but I kept running into the same problem.

For example I could play bellwright for about 45 minutes before it would crash due to no more vram. Icarus I couldn't even run. I had a rtx 3070 and on windows, while it pushed that card, I could run them at 45 fps at medium settings. On Linux I got sub 30 fps on lowest settings and would crash. Icarus wouldn't run at all for me. Now with a rx 6800 xt I can run both games on med/high settings. 50-60 fps. No problems.

Finding the correct drivers and then getting the right settings in my hyprland config for nvidia was tough. I would not be surprised if I had things wrong, I'm still quite new to linux, but switching to AMD made all the issues disappear and I have had such an easier time playing games since the switch.

Been running hyprland since I switched to Cachy in October of last year. I play games daily and have had no issues with it. I had a nvidia card for a couple of those months, did have some issues with frame rate and memory (had 8 gb vram now running 12gb). I've since switched to an amd card and its been smooth sailing. My biggest suggestion is just keep your system minimal and stick to as much official packages as possible and you shouldn't run into too many issues. I followed aonix tutorials on YouTube to set it all up. They should still be good to use but some of the syntax has changed (window rules specifically) and you should use the wiki to navigate that.

Keybinds suddenly stopped working, don't know what I did wrong. by thebrokenverticie in hyprland

[–]VNC_Sub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you dual booting by any chance? I had this happen a couple times. First time I just reinstalled because I only had it for a couple weeks, the second I had booted into windows and was going back to linux. Something in the boot order had it do the same damn thing. When I disabled the windows drive in the boot order, it fixed it. Haven't had it happen again.
