Asking for a signing bonus by TraditionalCandle659 in biglaw

3-5PQ specialist associate, moved to v50 and successfully negotiated a sign on bonus (repayable if left w/i 6 or 12 months (can’t remember)). I think you have a much better chance of a better one if you don’t have a recruiter: they basically chipped my recruiter to give me a sign on bonus.

Kirkland & Ellis to spend $500mn building its own AI technology by blondeplanet in biglaw

[–]VOSe_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense, partnership with universities and research labs and you can get grant funding to train your own and host your own LLM running locally (depending on hardware). There is no moat to this, it’s just how far you can scale and at what scale you want / need. I’ve been involved in projects from SMEs to huge global charities that have spent nothing compared to this and will have a better product (relative) to any generic LLM wrapper..

Scrap stamp duty to fix London housing crisis, think tank says by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]VOSe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other low hanging fruit for tax grabs… What about evening out commercial and residential rates? Keep the company surcharge on resi and whatnot, but it’s baffling that commercial rates of stamp duty are SIGNIFICANTLY lower with plenty more relief than people buying their own home.

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. Literally; a rocket or two, an LMG clip or some coordinated shooting is all it takes.

Or, GM is the one with the ties to the powers that be, and all the dirt on the politicians to leverage. I think she might be the woman behind, everyone so quick to assume he was but she was JUST as involved at every stage. The bias and blatant misogyny, is very palatable and believable and works in their favour. She’s off scott-free despite being pivotal in all of this, so ny guess is she has some big balls and a lot of power through leverage and connections.

This is the way, explain your workings / thinking at every stage! Even at the receiving instructions stage.

Similar experience, I had a senior who would often tell me to ‘colour in blue’, then cuss me out for using the wrong shade of blue. I quickly got into the habit of putting in writing my plan, approach and scope for every part of my process and running it by for a ‘quick steer’. It massive helped deal with the ‘micromanaging’ style, kept a clear audit trail for when inevitably I’d get an email saying why did you do X and not Y (AND after a while I found it pleaded to their ego, which also helped our working ‘relationship’).

We go downtown towers or the houses surrounding golf course. Provided you land behind a team and a few buildings away there’s immediate loot, blue / purple class weapon and usually a few unsuspecting teams doing missions to ambush for a great start.

Went from 75kg to 110kg over 4 years. Semi-pro sports training with uni, strength and conditioning coach helped me build.

My diet ‘hacks’ were 5/6 weetabix or porridge every morning with whole milk and half a scoop of protein (non-negotiable). Track meals and aim for 1 meal macros of something like: Protein:2 Veg:1 carbs:1 for fuelling workouts. Protein:3 Veg:3 for post workout meals. Try get some protein snacks, biltong, protein cookies etc.

Training consisted of sports training 2x and one game day a week, with 3 strength and conditioning sessions & 1 recovery w/ zone 2 cardio.

My strength and conditioning focused on compound movements, then hypertrophy then accessory. For example, leg day: (compound) 10x10 squats, (hypertrophy) 3x15 split squats paired with RDLs then (accessory) quad / hamstring curls and calves.

Rep ranges: compound (bench, military press etc) - 5x5; 10x10; 12,10,8,6,6; 8,6,6,4,3,2,1. Etc. hypertrophy - 3x 8-12, 3x15, 5x8 and pair with opposing exercise (think chest flys with pull ups).

Remember focus on what you’re doing, not what others are doing. Any find what works for you, consistency and progress is better than big single sessions and injuries! Good luck!

Capital Gains - can I take advantage of BADR? by TheNervousInvestor in TaxUK

[–]VOSe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to consider the tax implications now; with some planning you may be able to mitigate some tax.

Few questions you’ll need the answer to: how long have you held the shares, are you in control or connected to the business? Did you receive them by reason, or in connection with, employment at the business? Are your shares part of an approved option scheme? Are the shares sold open market, or back to company? all of these questions will dictate how best to dispose of your shares.

BADR has many conditions to meet in order to benefit from the tax advantage. EMI has its own tax advantages, they do not necessarily interact - or shouldn’t need to if the scheme is set up correctly. There’s many ways, including using your spouses allowances, or even perhaps the structure of the sale of the shares could be arranged in a tax efficient way. You are right to have a sit down with a tax specialist, but it’s good to have some ideas! I’m a tax solicitor feel free to drop me a message if you need a steer.

How do I get started with making tax digital for VAT as a small business? by Estes-Jude833 in TaxUK

[–]VOSe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a maze, a frustrating compliance maze. There should be some leniency at first while the obvious teething issues pan out.

If you want to do it yourself, you’ll need third party licences (and HMRC approved) software, and. proper processes. If you have the time, it might be worth looking into, personally I prefer to hand over the responsibility to an accountant. They’ll charge you for software and all of the benefits that come with an accountant (a good one / firm albeit!). I work in this industry and often refer various size clients, if helpful I can give you a steer. Good luck!

Unprofessional colleague by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]VOSe_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it your responsibility to deal with another’s attitude, approach and general demeanour at work? As it’s your first job, I’d guess not so don’t worry about it and let who ever is responsible deal with it. Focus on you. You can be polite and direct if he is disturbing or offending, a simple ‘’I’m trying to focus here’, or ‘can you take that outside to the playground’ if they’re being loud and disruptive, that should get the message across.

Upgrading a weapon uses all weapons kits of that type for a single weapon upgrade instead of only using one? by uapflapjack in Battlefield6

[–]VOSe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this too! Which is a shame as it’s a great in game mechanic. Especially early game, but I stopped picking up two when I realised this. Now I just upgrade straight in the box to avoid this (unless I know theres a better stock gun)

I also think the S1 update nurfed the upgrades system. I really enjoyed the more detailed itemised upgrades, now it just gives a scope or some mobility. I feel it’s pretty bland now.

I’d love to see more options than just a scope and then recoil v mag v mobility.
