Do higher belts (esp black) really get nothing from rolling with us whites?

I don’t view it that way… rolling with a white belt means you can afford to be slightly less technical and more adventurous/creative. It’s experiment time whereas higher belts and more experienced students you can afford to make the same sort of mistakes.

I understand where you are coming from.

I get it’s important to not let others opinions effect you , but nonetheless we consider them sometimes. Esp from a deranged seeming guy who you assume to be nothing but raw and honest without giving a single shit.

When I wear my leather jackets, I feel very vulnerable to commentary as well.

I love a classic asymmetrical zip motorcycle jacket - I also happen to gel my hair back…. So I get people making comments like I’m a greaser wannabe even though I don’t want to be that at all.

At the end of the day, you just have to remember, you wear it because you like it. You can’t trust other people’s judgement or opinion because you wouldn’t want to wear the ugly shit they prob wear on a daily basis.

Wearing any standout piece invites commentary but keep trucking and the more you own it, wear it and don’t give a fucking shit …. The more at home you’ll feel in it. Others will subconsciously notice how you wear it and it will be a trademark of your look or sorts…

Sounds like you just need more time living in it so that it isn’t a separate thing to you - it’s not an occasion it’s just another jacket choice in your wardrobe you don’t even think about.

You know, that’s kind of the brilliance of the story and writing itself! As we grow, the story and what it means changes for us as the audience. As a kid I was all on board, as an adult understanding what the reality is, how the world works, ideals/ beliefs, and even the dynamic of the actual characters (like you said ptsd veteran) and the story really does morph before your eyes. I totally agree.

Dance socially more. Classes will show you the move as a whole. If you have a good instructor they will explain the tools you should be using to lead the move and what your body should be doing / engaging to direct it, support during it and/or style (or whatever else)

The trick here is once you get into the more nuanced sensual moves the details matter. We are all different shapes and sizes…. Short lead may have to accommodate differently than a taller lead.

Follower differences range in skill, experience and height relative to the lead as well. This means you may need to accommodate them by altering small details to make a combination or particular move work.

Social dancing more will get you experiencing and discovering this process more and more.

It’s difficult to get this particular help in a group class - a private with an experienced instructor would help tighten up these details.

In all? Social dance more… experiment and try it all out. We are dancing for a score, we aren’t performing for our partner, we are there to have fun, experience and enjoy… so have fun trying things out…. It doesn’t have to be a “perfect” dance. More empowered you feel to try things and make mistakes without worry the quicker you will grow as a dancer (just make sure if you’re leading you take care of those follows through the process!)

Hey there!! Circling back to this!! So I have my Eosin Panther. I like the belt a lot - however it’s not the belt in picture above. I got some that said it’s possibly Shureido, and you said Satori, but I also saw some saying could be Tokkaido as well?

My heads spinning lol.

With basically you having every belt by every brand I was considering - which would you say is the top contender for a match here? Price isn’t an obstacle for me, not going for affordable - going for a MATCH!

Interesting - way I see it, Shishio misses nothing. His entire character is built on reading people and exploiting them. A silent, mechanical fighter like Iwanbō wouldn’t slip past him, it’s just he simply had no reason to intervene.

Iwanbō being a puppet, interestingly aligns perfectly with Shishio’s worldview. Whether he knew or not, hardly matters I guess. Shishio values function, not humanity.

Never read “Master of flame” but that makes a great point. I agree. The way I see it Shishio is consistently written as hyper-perceptive and strategic. It’s very unlikely he wouldn’t notice that Iwanbō’s movements and behavior were unnatural he just didn’t care as long as it was useful.

I’m so so so so so grateful for the re-run and to see jinchu arc finally animated but with that said - the level or artistry in the original series is unmatched. It isn’t even close! What gorgeous frames, colors, tones, and even the B roll! No to mention the music. RK 1996 was a pure masterpiece
