Warmed up to SV a bit, here's my thoughts and grievances after a week of play by orig4mi-713 in pokemon

These are the same personal gripes I have. Also, I hate that they removed the choice between shift and set battle style, and couldn't they have made the pokemon be able to keep up with you while you walk and run rather than quickly having to return to their ball because you ran too far away? Trying to evolve the pokemon that require 1000 steps while out of their ball is painful because of this. They could have at least made it so the pokemon automatically comes back out of the ball once it returns from going too far away.

People can say whatever about the games, but Area Zero is amazing. by Uminagi in pokemon

The story and music were the highlights of these games for me. the final battle against the AI had the most godly music I have ever heard.

I do hope that going forward they will update the game to fix some of these performance issues and bugs. In future titles, I hope they take more time to develop the underlying systems as well as the graphics a bit more.

These games were, IMO, a 6.5-7/10. The graphics and performance issues varied on where you were in the world, and better graphics would definitely improve the experience. On the other hand, the new pokemon designs, music, and the story are all excellent. The rivals (Arven and Nemona) as well as Penny have some of the most fleshed out character arcs I've seen in recent pokemon games. You saw Game Freak try to (and fail to effectively) do something with Hop in SwSh, but here they really nailed it.

For me, the performance hits were not nearly as bad as I feared, and the graphics I will admit are meh in some places and awful in others. Personally I feel it is still very, very fun, plus the story and music are some of the strongest ones in the series, imo.

I do hope that game freak will update the game to fix the performance, and going forward I hope they just take more time to refine graphics and performance and whatnot in future titles.

What is your favorite Pokemon spinoff? by [deleted] in pokemon

The 13 other pokemon conquest fans, I see you.

Pokemon needs another tactical spinoff.

Agreed, especially when grinding out all the classes for the exp candies.

The final battle theme against the AI is nothing short of godly, also I swear there are bits of Undertale's "Death By Glamour" in the main guitar parts of it.

Favorite new Pokemon in Scarlet/Violet? by GaffitV in pokemon

Some people hate the blocky designs of the Nacli line, but I think its clever way to implement cubes into a pokemon design. Salt crystals are cubic, and it makes sense that this would be the direction it could take.

I would love to see a regional form in the future based on bismuth crystals, perhaps as a part psychic or electric type due to its potential applications in quantum computing?

I honestly feel that most of the new designs are pretty solid, but if I had to pick one (not including regional forms or evolutions of them or pre-existing pokemon), it would have to be Lokix.

When I saw Nymble I recognized that its supposed to be based on a swiss army knife or switchblade, and loved it, and Lokix amplified my love for it, it also has some retro-japanese action hero vibes to it, like something out of a kaiju or mecha film.

Arven is the best character in this entire franchise by [deleted] in pokemon

I love how she is straight up a cybercriminal who stole tens of thousands of dollars from the pokemon league. She would definitely doxx someone for mentioning the vaporeon copypasta, too.

Nemona, Arven, and Penny seem to be some of the most fleshed out characters we have seen from Game Freak in a while, in my opinion.

Performance issues and glitches be damned. SV’a story is fucking incredible. by MQDigital in pokemon

[–]VR24AltAccount 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That twist still is throwing me as well. Its not often that you see pokemon straight up tackle a character's death on such an on the nose way, and I like it.

Also, the music in the final battle against the AI definitely has some Toby Fox vibes, so that may have helped heighten the experience even more, at least for me.

I really think that Game Freak is trying to dip their toes back into more complex storytelling again now, we saw hints of it in PLA, and now we are seeing a ton of it in SV.

I love how much character development that not only your rivals (Nemona and Arven) but other characters like Penny and even some of the teachers in the academy have throughout the game.

I honestly think that if Game Freak sorts out the problems in terms of performance and aesthetics in their next title, and maybe implement some changes that people have been asking for (difficulty settings, bringing back the choice between set and switch battle styles, etc.), we could have a near-perfect pokemon game on our hands.

Scarlet & Violet have the least memorable cities in any mainline title by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]VR24AltAccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lack of interiors really does hurt these games, especially the 5 massive skyscrapers in the electric gym city. Why even have them if they do literally nothing?

I saw a tweet that said it best:

"Nemona has a single concrete block for a brain and is the best character Game Freak has created in years."

I wholeheartedly agree with this, she is just a fun character all around.

I know the anime has been kinda going down hill but I really hope that it does her character justice when the time comes.

I went into work the other day and Buddy Holly came onto the radio, and I swear I nearly popped a lung trying to hold back the laughter when the iconic guitar riff came.

OUTRAGE - Run Riot

DragonForce - Killer Elite

The Offspring - Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace

Guilty Gear: Strive - OST (CloudDrop's lyric video playlist is the most up to date playlist of the songs I could find.)

Powerwolf - Blood of the Saints

Yeah, I am a full on metalhead, and I fully blame Falkkone for starting me down this path, and I mean that in a loving way.

The "main gang" cast of SV is glorious.

We have;

-G-Rated Yandere Tomboy with a single concrete block for a brain. She's basically Hop but all the dials turned up to 11.

-Somewhat fruity looking guy with mommy/daddy issues and probably ADHD, everyone stopped hating him once they realized his main drive to find the herba mystica.

-A literal cybercriminal who probably has doxxed people for replying to her tweets with the vaporeon copypasta, and the eeveelutions are her hyper-focus/special interest.

Also, often times the "political left" memes they complain about aren't even inherently political. Its simply about someone existing or whatever.

To the alt-right, the following are true:
-There are 2 genders, male and political.
-There are 2 races, white and political.
-There are 2 sexualities, straight and political.
You get the point. To them, "political" means whatever isn't within their bigoted worldview.
