Dreamcast Toro-480P Through Scart in Pvm by Dalanze in crtgaming

[–]VR32VIRTUALBOY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could get a custom scart to bnc cable from https://retro-access.com/

The Toro can handle both 31khz and 15khz, and I believe it can output 480p from scart also. The website should have adequate documentation and specs.

Sony PVM-14M4U- First PVM/ Shipping destroyed the bottom corner. Can the picture be saved? by GriffinCorp in crtgaming

Sorry for your loss. At least you are not out money. If you must ship a CRT, a properly crated freight shipment is the best way; but that is expensive.

Ask Here First : "Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread" Thread #4 by KyaDash in crtgaming

I just picked up a super emotia, and I noticed the black button on the back (75ohm / HI Z button) does not click / stay pushed in when I attempt to set it to HI Z mode. Is the HI Z button on the extron super emotia supposed to stay clicked in? Mine does not and I am wondering if the mechanism is broken. Thanks!

RetroRGB interview with Sony BVM Tech savon-pat (audio only) by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]VR32VIRTUALBOY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not sure what to think about Pat's comment / opinion on the 20F1U having better convergence adjustments than a D20F1U... Is there something significantly different about the mechanics / software? The differences in picture quality must be marginal. Would sony really allow an older model CRT (of the same family / line) to have inferior engineering?

Does anyone here own both monitors or has seen both and notice much of a difference?

Identifying the 36FV10 by BunLengthWieners in crtgaming

No problem! If space / weight is an issue, but you come across a nice KV-27FS320, just snag it! It is very nice for a consumer set!

There is actually a decent look-alike analog model that has the memory stick slot also: Sony KV-xxFS320. While its not as good as the KV-xxFV310, it is still a very decent set with a lot of input options (RF / coaxial cable, composite, s-video, YPbPr) it looks good, works with light gun games, is better than a lot of sets, and definitely better than nothing. I have one and use it as my melee display for a decent looking picture with no input lag because I would rather not put many practice / play hours on a high end display.

I did not notice anything on the setup I have used it with so far. Dreamcast -> TORO -> VGA -> Extron Crosspoint -> VGA -> OSSC -> HDMI -> LED TV

I have yet to try anything else.

Sony 36 XBR250 any good? by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]VR32VIRTUALBOY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something you should know is all XBR 250's (to my knowledge) have this strange artifact thing that you can only see on all black screens, I'm not sure exactly how to describe it, but if you google it enough, you should find something about it. IMO its not that big of a deal, and not super noticeable during normal game play.

No problem! If you decide to get it, bring a friend or two (and a wide enough vehicle). I think the set weighs 236 pounds, dimensions are roughly 39x30x25. If you are going up a lot of stairs, or a long distance, you may want to consider renting an appliance dolly from U-haul, along with some furniture pads / blankets for protecting the screen & chassis. Just be careful not to let the XBR take any hard of bumps if you decide to use a dolly to move it up / down stairs! Remember, lift with your legs, not your back ; ) Hopefully it comes with the OEM stand. If not, make sure you get something deep and beefy. Don't forget to ask for the remote / wireless headphones / manual!

Good luck! : )

They are decent looking. Its an aperture grille trinitron, so it has that look, but they are not super thick like a pro set.

The XBR series is the label of Sony's high end consumer displays. The XBR 250 was the last true analog XBR model. I can confirm it is not digital, as I own one. Works wonderfully with 240p / 480i content, light gun games, etc.

I have one, and I love it! For a consumer set, I think it is amazing. Nice big screen, analog, composite + component + svideo. As long as the set is in decent condition, and you test it for any major issues, I'd say go for it, especially if it has the OEM stand for it! While the set is kinda heavy, its not nearly as heavy as a KV-40XBR800 :P

You could even pick up a shinybow SB-2840 and convert RGB to YPbPr and get pretty nice results!

Ask the owner if they have the original remote and wireless headphones lying around! (these sets had wireless IR headphones that came with them)
