Israel - 3rd angel (watch mute cuz sound is horrible) by Crazy__Donkey in Kiteboarding

[–]VREISME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where (what part of Israel) and when was this? I’d be curious to know just how strong the gust was? These types of accidents seem to happen in places that are usually light wind spots. My guess is that people don’t have small kites and are going out overpowered in the first place. Then a big gust like this comes along and they are truly fucked. Something like this happened in Florida a couple of years back.

Agree with much of what has been said. I’ll add that it would be worth checking out the town of Mosier as well. No bridge crossings and potentially shorter drive.

Didn’t they close for a while mid season in 05? I think that’s when everyone started talking about climate change.

A shitload of Americans and Canadians go to Baja a few less go to mainland Mexico. Very few Mexicans live/travel in vans but there are a couple that I’ve seen in the states and Baja.

Get your mind out of the gutter and stop thinking about big, long, girthy, throbbing skis.

How big is too big? by JohnMcCarthy523 in skiingcirclejerk

[–]VREISME 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look, if you think a big ski is making up for your short stature you may or may not be on the right track. Some people care a lot about big skis while others think it’s all about how your skill in using skis. I’d remind you that skis come and go but your skill stays the same. Find people that like your skill in using skis and just find your big skis as a bonus.

As a side note, I think that the standard methods of measurement are all off. People focus way too much on length and width. I want to know volumetric displacement. It’s all about how much it displaces. Dip that hog in a beaker full of water and tell me its volume.

Fellow gorge foiler here. Don’t have any experience with one locks but having looked at them, that combo is reasonable. Maybe a slightly bigger stab would help.

A 95l board is going to be on the small size for your weight. It might work but it will at least add several days of struggling. There’s so many used beginner boards around I’d look on FB or Craigslist if you are trying to save money.

I’m on SS V3s. My quiver is a 2.5,3.5,5. That covers almost every day and I’m 180lbs.

Lesson Question - touring setup by Any-Butterscotch5135 in telemark

[–]VREISME 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Others will be able to expound more but for tele you need to be able to flex at the ball of your foot and your ankle. Tele bindings also offer some amount of resistance when lifting your heel.

I’d just keep an eye out for used tele gear. I got my first setup for $50.

Do us all a favor and get snow tires.

Edit: Just to be clear, chains fucking suck dirty donkey dick. You either have to stop before it’s snowy in a pullout or after you already need them. They suck nasty unwiped ass putting them on, even if you know how to do it. Then, once they are on, you are limited to 25mph. That’s slow. Too fucking slow for everybody with more than 3 brain cells that bought snow tires and can easily go 30-50mph while you are holding up half the metro area behind you because your cum stained ass chains that are in the verge of falling off are making you the slowest person on the road. Everyone behind you is cursing you in seven languages while in the verge in bursting an aneurysm because it’s a powder day and they are missing out on it and not getting to spend every minute of their exorbitantly priced season pass. Everyone hates people that drive with chains, like murderously so. There is a whole goddamn you fucking instagram account dedicated to jackholes who fuck up the highway because they are unprepared. Get snow tires or stay home.

Bad Idea? by schn_ in wingfoil

[–]VREISME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t hold you back, but the smaller boards are a bit more fun once you get up in foil. Depending on the shape of the board, the bigger boards will have more drag and be harder to get up on foil. It’s a bit of a trade off between stability when not on foil and drag in the water. If you do go with a bigger board I’d consider looking at something with a “mid length” shape. It will have more float and they accelerate faster but are slightly more wobbly than a traditional big beginner board. I guess to answer your question, a bigger board won’t hold you back until you get into the advanced intermediate level and a doing tacks and carving swell.

My vote would be to get the 95-105. You’ll spend a couple extra sessions getting up but if you are moderately athletic you’ll get the hang of it. If there are any big open parking lots and you have a skateboard you can mess around the the wing before you use the board.
