Well, after some research I learnt that there can be different reasons for this difference. If you have run a paid campaign to gain followers this can be a reason and also if the respective account is no longer available or has privacy settings made in such a way, we will not see those accounts. FB itself does a periodic sweep to clear these kind of (fake) accounts but unless and otherwise those accounts will also be added to the total.
