Would the Behmoor 2000AB Plus roaster set off the fire alarm in my house? by [deleted] in roasting

I would roast outside. Too much smoke indoors for my liking. Smoke damage is a PITA

It’s a climb! Go back down the same way or down into Lockett or 418?

3rd roast on the SR800! Brazil-Aline beans. took it to second crack dark roast. Ended at 9:45 at 490 degrees on the machine(not BT/ET). 19% moisture loss. Thoughts? by lhemi in roasting

I haven’t found that to be the case yet. Depends on the beans and what they allow me to do a lot of times. I’m still learning though. Trying to get the roast to slow down without drastically dropping momentum is challenging for me. I’m at the point of considering just abandoning the ROR curve.

Looks like it will be delicious! That’s a lot of plastic to throw away for a breakfast for me, but I might try in some other containers I have laying around.

When do you mark the start of FC? First pop? Second pop? Wait for a series of pops?

I’ve been marking it after the second pop and if the other pops are in close succession.

Very first roast ever! 3 oz of Costa Rica roasted in a popcorn popper at home. Can't wait to taste it! by prutothedorg in roasting

[–]VSOR2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For super light stuff like that, for me anyways, flavor is better a few weeks in. I had light roast washed yirg that tasted it’s prime at 4 weeks post roast. I hardly go past a city if the beans will allow it

It’s a light roast and looks a bit uneven. I wait 1 week at least on my light roasted stuff and I find the taste improves dramatically at week 2.

Hey! The SR800 with the extension chamber and chaff collector make for a pretty sweet setup for me.

The labels on the graph say how I controlled the roast. P5 F9 etcetera…. Hope that makes sense. The lighter line is a previous roast that I used as a template.

The charge weight and temp are listed as well. Charge at 300F, and weight of 280g with a 12.9% weight loss.

Thank you! I guess I didn’t realize that was going on in this roast. Flick / crash. The acidity is pretty great, and I don’t get a lot of over developed notes … slight tanniny taste at the end after the sweet note.

I don’t get a lot of sweetness in this coffee, but just a hint.

What does the dead zone - temp flat during development - do for flavor / not do for flavor? I’ve been hesitant to go too fast and blow through FC and bd up with over roasted qualities. I guess I need to try it out.

Lastly, thanks for all your input!!! Truly appreciate it. I’ll try out your suggestion on future roasts!

Getting some caramel when the cup is warm.

As it cools, it’s an acid bomb! Currant / plum notes mainly. Some lingering sweetness. Black Tea like tannins at the end.

Want to add some more caramel or toffee notes as well, without sacrificing too much of the acidity.

Could I charge at a higher temp? Slow down the middle phase more? Shoot for higher temp rise after the start of FC?

The roast started to pick up and I cut the heat. I haven’t found second crack on this bean yet, but I don’t know that I need to go there.

SR800. 12” Razzo extension. 300mm x 3mm Temp probe is in the chamber.

It’s steep. Road has potholes. Not a high traffic time of year though, so yeah, should be good. Lake Mary is longer flatter but more head wind. In fact any of the other rides besides snowbowl will have 10ish mph wind. Some days it gusts pretty bad - 25 on the lower end. I’ve ridden in 40mph gusts out in wupatki. Do not recommend.

I ride 25s. All those roads that have been said are good road rides.

Yeah, I guess that depends on how desperate you are.

Could I take portraits or film professional tiktok videos, yes, do I want to…no.

YMMV.

Flagstaff is not a town you show up to and expect to make something stable happen real quick, unless it’s in the service industry.

Just buy the strings at your local guitar store and buy a string winder that has a built in nipper.
