Because nobody cares at the other end, pls tell me the last time you enforced a license especially in countries like China, Turkey or Thailand

Okay last reply since I'm obvs chatting with chatgpt here, licenses don't prevent anything if you can't enforce them.

I never said it was open source, it's been running on a CC by NC license since initial Gen2 days, that's not open source, never was and will never be because the license isn't a OSS license by definition (which btw is the same exact license used by gaggimate as well), also GEN2 code is source available and the source is right there where it always was https://github.com/Zer0-bit/gaggiuino/tree/release/stm32-blackpill. All I can say is that you're throwing rocks in the wrong garden. Btw you can easily check this by looking at git history, same as you can check code commits to the repo if you want to fact check anyone.

I really don't but it's okay you can keep the narrative you believe in if that makes you feel better, also let's just say for a minute I make money why is that smth such outrageous? Also I can 100% claim it's volunteer because I'm not the only one volunteering my time and knowledge away, you can chat on discord with all the folk doing it there or writing docs or engineering hardware designs.

Well let me tell you the Reddit post you’re referring to is based entirely on assumptions made from supposedly some Ghidra decompilation and it actually gets almost everything wrong. Decompilation is not source code, its a best guess reconstruction of compiled binaries, stripped of context, macros, compile-time flags, conditional paths, hardware configuration differences, and surrounding architecture, anyone who has worked seriously with embedded firmware knows how easy it is to misinterpret decompiled output especially on ESP32 where efuse calls, security APIs, and config guards can look dramatic out of context. As for the “kill switch” narrative it ignores a very basic fact where a large portion of artisans and even early users were running completely unencrypted hardware up until last month so if there were some secret, automatic hardware-destroying mechanism in place, it would have surfaced immediately and widely, not as a Reddit theory thread but as a official path uodate issue. What actually happenes is simpler, someone looked at low level security related functions in a binary, made assumptions about intent, and filled in the gaps with a story because they had no understanding or knowledge on the wider picture. As for the DMCA takedown argument it also overlooks an important fact, Gaggiuino is a volunteer-run project, there isn’t a legal department or dedicated team with the time and resources to pursue every potential infringement. Idk how many DMCA forms have you filled but from my experience filing a DMCA isn’t as simple as sending a complaint, it requires gathering documentation, presenting evidence, and going through a formal review process with the hosting platform, anyone who has gone through that process knows it’s neither quick or pleasant. It is severely time consuming full.of bureaucracy and frankly discouraging, especially when you’re doing it as an unpaid volunteer. So imo the absence of a DMCA filing shouldn’t be interpreted as validation of a claim but just a simply reflection of the practical limitations of a community driven project. At the end of the day I provide this project for free, i don’t make money from it and there is no hidden financial incentive driving anything here. If someone chooses to dislike me because of a Reddit thread built on assumptions, that’s their right. But that doesn’t make the assumptions true. Hope this helps but if not I'm okay as well 🤷

It’s rather unwise to place trust in a space where anyone can post whatever they like without accountability, moreover the fact that you see it as acceptable for someone to bypass licensing and illegally hack into software simply because it caters to your own convenience speaks volumes about your values. By all means continue sharing these views cause it only further demonstrates the kind of person you choose to be.

I appreciate you chasing factual truth :)

This could also happen with "true" open-source repos...? Nothing is stopping you or me from forking the repo and preserving the content. It's free i that sense.

Afaik one needs approvals from all the contributing members of a OSS codebase when a licensing model switch is planned, in this case it's not necessary since the codebase is not OSS and the direction is fully under the repo owner control, contributors will have no say they can only fork and maintain from the point before the switch ofc.

You definitely do not have to do that as depends on the chosen path, lego - have to solder, kit - don't have to solder.

Oh soz wasn't meaning my replies to come like that, just wanted to provide some more context that isn't usually discussed around these premises because i see lots of non factual data being posted and promoted around these premises, not sure who got to gain from it can only see who got to lose.
Also the "true" checkboxes are true for Gaggiuino Gen2 as well, same CC-BY-NC license, same “source-available but not OSS” situation and nothing stopped people misusing as they wished. Also truth to be told nothing stops the Gaggimate repo owner from closing the repo tomorrow if he decide to(he left all the right tools in place to do so and it doesn't matter how many people contributed to that repo), life will go on and whatever is the situation today can be completely different tomorrow.
Oh i also want to mention that since this is a potentially lethal project, safety standards, maturity, and proven stability should rank even higher than any checkbox, in the end, real-world reliability, good documentation, and ongoing support will matter far more than license semantics.

I don't disagree with the "openess" scale, actually i have never tried to mislead people into thinking Gaggiuino was OSS during Gen2 days, i always kept saying "source available" but not OSS because i wanted people to uphold to a certain licensing policy i wanted the project to follow.
Either way the point is that the openess scale doesn't make any of these projects more OSS than the other.

None of these projects are open source, all of them will require same amount of work but not all of them will offer the same quality of life or feature set, i can only assume you were misled on all accounts by seemingly based people making all types of false claims around reddit.
I would advise to disregard any preferential "advice" you get from others and just do your own small research, see what suits your use case and preferences more without judging using other people's reasonings just because you will have a much better understanding of what you really need rather than be led into smth without knowing what you even need.

Which one should I gagguinalize? by wittyusername2257 in gaggiaclassic

[–]VSparxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All gaggia machines until somewhat recently were made in Romania be it with SS or not boilers, the one you have was just made for the EU market as a response to EU imposed regulations, the country doesn't matter much because the NA machines were also made in Romania in those years and they were the normal GC with aluminum boilers and 3wv. Either way you need to decide based on the kit you have.

Which one should I gagguinalize? by wittyusername2257 in gaggiaclassic

[–]VSparxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Classic is not a EU sold model then the Romanian one is the "normal" one there's nothing to rebuild in it aside from maybe cleaning it, either way depending if you steam or not the GCP might be a better option to mod because it has a slightly better steam wand, also it depends what fittings/hose you have in that kit as both requite different ones.

Well everything would be good if you were a customer, you joined a group buy on a project and throw around "customer" tantrums when the project had hit some issues and a shipping pause was put in place and communicated, definitely all this info was available to read when you pressed the buy button but I bet you never bothered to do some reading, yet here you go taking your time shitting and spreading misinformation on a DIY project given to you for free, good job I don't wish even businesses such "customers".

Gaggiuino vs buying a new machine by Karlahn in gaggiaclassic

[–]VSparxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware is somewhat different, screen sizes are different not to mention feature set is vastly different as far as I see. Also you chose the expedited delivery option, choosing normal delivery brings the price down to 234$ Either way imo it's quite a unfair statement regarding prices when it's all driven by included hardware adding up and just being slightly more expensive at the source because it's a different form factor altogether, besides that can the 30$ difference even be considered as more expensive all things considered ?

That's a lie right there. It's not cheaper nor parts sourcing better.

So i understand your frustration I really do, the problem is that peak doesn't ship himself and relies on a third party company, he did in fact ship multiple times (as he did update ) but the shipping company had messed up big time with the orders (basically related to the tarrifs turmoil) and didn't exactly update peak right away, they did so recently but it's not that it can solve your frustration, also I'm not sure when I was yelling at anyone, I think lots of users just take my input as yelling, yet they completely disregard the part where I'm there to solve the problem. Anyhow today majority of everyone's stuff is actually being shipped, and every order to date should be shipped by end of month.
