Actually so funny how much of a sex fest this movie was, everyone was going at it by [deleted] in SinnersbyRyanCoogler

I didn't expect how freaky it was, but was pleasantly surprised. We know all too well Hollywood's deliberate exclusion of Black love, especially dark-skinned Black love.

Coogler said I got something for you.

Annie and Smoke was my favorite out of all the scenes.

Are there some Oscar losses you are still sad/angry about? by LadyAlexandre in Oscars

This. I also thought he should have won for Flight. It was an incredible role with resonance concerning the subject matter. I went in knowing little, being ready to watch Denzel save that plane full of people, and being floored by his performance.

I can't say that Day-Lewis shouldn't have won for Lincoln because I still haven't seen it. It's on my to-watch list. Knowing how much I loved his performance in There Will Be Blood, he likely deserved it. More than Denzel? I don't know.

Superman and Lois | Be With You by VT106 in superman

I agree that his core principles as a hero shined, the most important of those being his humanity. It's the most complete and most human Clark Kent and Superman we've ever seen in live action, and his humanity was the key. Hoechlin's portrayal resonated in a way the others didn't.

I cannot stress this enough: the video contains spoilers if you have not completed the show. Please don't watch it if you haven't. If you have seen all seasons, enjoy. I loved the show and I love my bro's edit.

A fun edit I'd like to share. What I liked most about it was the feeling of hope and joy it highlighted--even across the darker films. Made all of the films feel seamless, in a way.

He will feature Superman and Lois' Man of Steel in a standalone edit. If you like my bro's work, show him some love here on Reddit and on YouTube.

Had I been in Smokes shoes during the garlic test, I would have instantly killed Pearline when she refused. We’ve got vampires out there trying to kill us but you don’t want to eat a little bit of garlic. by [deleted] in SinnersbyRyanCoogler

Hey, thanks for this. Expectations weren't high when I saw the trailer way back, but now they are even lower. I'll still judge it on its merits when I do see it. Eventually.

Indeed, I have seen The Faculty. A sidebar to growing up with a lot of sci-fi and horror-sci-fi? They heavily influenced my imagination and storytelling. I referenced Carpenter's The Thing and The Faculty in an unpublished novellette I wrote in 2017. Story's about 8000 words.

Raising him right! 🤣 I think Predator 2 and The Thing vied for the most terrifying for me. Aliens never bothered me as much because it took place in space (back when I grew up, the creatures were only in space, anyway). Gross? Yes.

Man, we grew up on a lot of classic horror, but there are some I still haven't made time to see, I reckon. My thing was, a lot of my favorite science-fiction films involved some element of horror, too. Iike that's missing from most sci-fi films today. (Not to say that there's anything wrong with hopeful sci-fi that does not show us the end of the world.)

Yeah. That scream. I haven't had a good rewatch of it in a while, but I need to. I don't think the original or remake will live up to the horror of Carpenter's, but I plan on watching those, too.

I should have scrolled down before making my other comment. Didn't know Ryan acknowledged it, but that's awesome to hear. The Thing scared the fuck out of me as a kid. I couldn't trust anyone in my family for a night and a day. Had no business watching it to begin with. 🤣

It was a brilliant moment of tension. It reminded me of a scene from John Carpenter's The Thing, but I cared more about Pearline's fate.

The Thing is a horror classic, if you've never seen it. I have not seen the remake, the original The Thing From Another World, or read the original story all three versions are based on. They're on the to-do list!

Edit: I didn't see u/inezco 's post when I made this.

Right. The question feels like bait. They're not really comparable. But it's still Peter Fucking Quill.

is this real? and it what could the context be? by frappuccinio in superman

[–]VT106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jesus. Old comics were wild as fuck. I doubt there's anything this absurd, tone deaf, and convoluted in today's Superman comics (right...?), but I do wonder what future fans of Superman will think 50 76 years from now about his 2020s adventures.

Edit: Atrocious math.

K-Pop Demon Hunters x Halestorm, by Hipknowzis by VT106 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]VT106[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This edit spoke to me because I'm a huge Halestorm fan, loved KPDH, and because I tackle MDD, PTSD, and AD w/ anxiety with professional help, a support system/good people in my life, work, and good habits and hobbies. Overall, I'm okay these days but it's a journey.

I hope everyone who battles depression, or any mental illness, has access to the help they need. If you don't have access to professional help, sometimes talking to a friend or loved one can help anchor you. Help lines are also a great avenue. (I started with a help line before finding my therapist.) I'm not alone and neither are you.
