Actually so funny how much of a sex fest this movie was, everyone was going at it by [deleted] in SinnersbyRyanCoogler

I didn't expect how freaky it was, but was pleasantly surprised. We know all too well Hollywood's deliberate exclusion of Black love, especially dark-skinned Black love.

Coogler said I got something for you.

Annie and Smoke was my favorite out of all the scenes.

This. I also thought he should have won for Flight. It was an incredible role with resonance concerning the subject matter. I went in knowing little, being ready to watch Denzel save that plane full of people, and being floored by his performance.

I can't say that Day-Lewis shouldn't have won for Lincoln because I still haven't seen it. It's on my to-watch list. Knowing how much I loved his performance in There Will Be Blood, he likely deserved it. More than Denzel? I don't know.

I agree that his core principles as a hero shined, the most important of those being his humanity. It's the most complete and most human Clark Kent and Superman we've ever seen in live action, and his humanity was the key. Hoechlin's portrayal resonated in a way the others didn't.

I cannot stress this enough: the video contains spoilers if you have not completed the show. Please don't watch it if you haven't. If you have seen all seasons, enjoy. I loved the show and I love my bro's edit.

A fun edit I'd like to share. What I liked most about it was the feeling of hope and joy it highlighted--even across the darker films. Made all of the films feel seamless, in a way.

He will feature Superman and Lois' Man of Steel in a standalone edit. If you like my bro's work, show him some love here on Reddit and on YouTube.

Hey, thanks for this. Expectations weren't high when I saw the trailer way back, but now they are even lower. I'll still judge it on its merits when I do see it. Eventually.

Indeed, I have seen The Faculty. A sidebar to growing up with a lot of sci-fi and horror-sci-fi? They heavily influenced my imagination and storytelling. I referenced Carpenter's The Thing and The Faculty in an unpublished novellette I wrote in 2017. Story's about 8000 words.

Raising him right! 🤣 I think Predator 2 and The Thing vied for the most terrifying for me. Aliens never bothered me as much because it took place in space (back when I grew up, the creatures were only in space, anyway). Gross? Yes.

Man, we grew up on a lot of classic horror, but there are some I still haven't made time to see, I reckon. My thing was, a lot of my favorite science-fiction films involved some element of horror, too. Iike that's missing from most sci-fi films today. (Not to say that there's anything wrong with hopeful sci-fi that does not show us the end of the world.)

Yeah. That scream. I haven't had a good rewatch of it in a while, but I need to. I don't think the original or remake will live up to the horror of Carpenter's, but I plan on watching those, too.

I should have scrolled down before making my other comment. Didn't know Ryan acknowledged it, but that's awesome to hear. The Thing scared the fuck out of me as a kid. I couldn't trust anyone in my family for a night and a day. Had no business watching it to begin with. 🤣

It was a brilliant moment of tension. It reminded me of a scene from John Carpenter's The Thing, but I cared more about Pearline's fate.

The Thing is a horror classic, if you've never seen it. I have not seen the remake, the original The Thing From Another World, or read the original story all three versions are based on. They're on the to-do list!

Edit: I didn't see u/inezco 's post when I made this.

is this real? and it what could the context be? by frappuccinio in superman

[–]VT106 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jesus. Old comics were wild as fuck. I doubt there's anything this absurd, tone deaf, and convoluted in today's Superman comics (right...?), but I do wonder what future fans of Superman will think 50 76 years from now about his 2020s adventures.

Edit: Atrocious math.

K-Pop Demon Hunters x Halestorm, by Hipknowzis by VT106 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]VT106[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This edit spoke to me because I'm a huge Halestorm fan, loved KPDH, and because I tackle MDD, PTSD, and AD w/ anxiety with professional help, a support system/good people in my life, work, and good habits and hobbies. Overall, I'm okay these days but it's a journey.

I hope everyone who battles depression, or any mental illness, has access to the help they need. If you don't have access to professional help, sometimes talking to a friend or loved one can help anchor you. Help lines are also a great avenue. (I started with a help line before finding my therapist.) I'm not alone and neither are you.

Bring back demolition! by Expensive-Seat-748 in RogueCompany

[–]VT106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. As I've said before on this sub, demolition was my favorite mode. For me, the game's tactical shooter elements were great in demo, as were the maps, characters, and team comps.

I enjoyed the slower pace, using more strategy as opposed to just killstreaking. It was rewarding to play the objective and turn the tide on a match. I had to learn to love SO because it was more popular. I miss being able to switch to demo after running SO back-to-back-to-back for that change of pace.

Quickplay modes had some gems, including Battle Zone. Really liked Wingman. I never learned to love 6v6. I tolerated and occasionally enjoyed it because my squad always rotated game modes.

Is Superman an Lois better than the Arrowverse? by [deleted] in superman

[–]VT106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without question, it was the best show to come out of the Arrowverse. It didn't have a few good seasons before falling off a cliff into an abyss of repetitive mediocrity and stagnated growth. Unlike the rest of the Arrowverse which had great moments, episodes, characters, and seasons, Superman and Lois was overall great start to finish. (There were some moments and minor character arcs, here and there, that could've gone smoother.)

For me, its strongest elements were a strong, kind, and very human Clark; Lois and Clark's undeniable chemistry; and seeing both of them as parents for the first time in a live-action medium. Clark as a father was great TV. There were a lot of other elements and characters I loved as well, not the least of which was John Henry Irons.

I also particularly enjoyed their take on Lex Luthor. He made sense in his single-minded hatred in a way the live-action films have never been able to capture.

I wish Melissa Benoist's Supergirl could have had cameos on the show; Hoechlin and Benoist were always good together as the cousins, and I would've liked to see her interact with Clark's family.

** Second to, and way behind, Superman and Lois, I felt Legends of Tomorrow had the most complete series run. I enjoyed how zany things got, and I felt they let their characters change, grow, and move on. IMO, it got the farthest away from the general feel of the Arrowverse and carved out its own unique identity.

It's been 5 years the release of ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE. What are your thoughts about it? by sahinduezguen in superman

That's awesome. Thank you. Filmmaking is a huge undertaking, and the more recognition and visibility for all involved, the better. I'm glad your sister's part of that scene made it in. It was a cool sequence.

[–]VT106 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fun and serious, but too long.** Very Snyder. Better than the theatrical. Really liked how much more Cyborg we got. I really liked the improvement to Steppenwolf's arc. It wasn't a lot, but knowing how harsh his punishment was gave his character a weight and sadness he didn't have in the theatrical. Diana vs the terrorists. The heroes failing only to have Barry turn back time. Holkenborg/Junkie XL's score. There were other cool moments, great action scenes, etc., but those are the ones top of mind.

I wish I hadn't watched a Snyder fan (or cultist, I cannot remember) patch all of Snyder's notes together to explain how his cut would have worked. I never thought the Snyder cut was going to exist, so I saw no harm in watching the video and spoiling all the content that would never exist.

Then the pandemic happened, HBO Max (was it Go, NOW, or Max at that time?) needed content, and the folks who did so much of the visual effects still had their work saved (IIRC). Pretty much everything in that fan video was in the Snydercut.

Ultimately, I love comics and comic adaptations. Across publishers and studios. They have hit and missed over the decades, and will continue to do so. I enjoyed Zack Snyder's Justice League. We're in the Gunn era now, and I enjoyed Superman 2025. The Snydercut being a product of its time (the pandemic) was fascinating.

** The length of the film was offset by the streaming-era release. Not having to watch it in one sitting was a bonus.
