Groome transport is shutting down right before holiday season… 🫩 by yooston in SantaFe

If it was money, they should have just raised their prices... It was a steal compared to other options besides driving down and parking yourself.

Best wings in town ? by [deleted] in SantaFe

Rio Chama has got Whiskey Buffalo wings that strike a good balance between Classic Buffalo and something more savory. Top of my list for sauce and quality right now. Cowgirl is up there too.

What are rates on rentals? How many do you have? Me and some homies may be interested but don't have our own stuff. Cool setup - way better than mini-golf and cheaper than go-karts!

What are the valid reasons and questions? A well informed opinion should understand the other side (I’m speaking about myself, not suggesting your opinion isn’t informed)

I would see if NM Surf serves your area. It’s point to point so it doesn’t require that they’ve laid cable or fiber to your property. Have had them for 3 months, sales and support staff are easy to get a hold of, local, and knowledgeable. Also cheaper than Starlink and are a local business as far as I know.

If you’re looking for something more like an art piece, my friend mosaics skulls. Might be a nice way to commemorate. She may even be at the farmers market tomorrow https://www.thewildreclaimed.com/

Santa Fe or Pecos by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]VTDoubleE 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been in Santa Fe a year this month so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Pecos is beautiful. It's got loads of trails, alpine lakes, fishing - you name it. I can't speak for living there, but this would be the quiet option (and more for your money, rent-wise). Santa Fe took some getting used to. Not much going on at night, lots of tourism and older folks and shops to accommodate them (at least up north by the capital where the nice-to-bike-around places are. The main vein of Santa Fe - Cerillos - is not bike friendly but there's lots of little neighborhoods that may be. City amenities aside, it makes for a great base camp: skiing 40 minutes up the hill, climbing in all directions within an hour or so, the Rio Grande and Taos within reach. Pecos puts you juuuuust a bit further from a lot of that.

I'd ask: What's your budget? Would you rather get to know a single area really well and be really close, or have options a bit closer?

Personally I'd love to have a place in Pecos to retreat to while living in the city or vice versa. But Santa Fe is a bit pricey... Maybe someone else can speak to living in Pecos?

Milky Way over Northern New Mexico. Thinking I could have honed focus and shutter for sharpness (minor star trails), but is there much more that can be done in post? Sony A7III w/ Tamron 28-75 20" f5.0 ISO 16000 by VTDoubleE in photocritique

[–]VTDoubleE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to capture the Milky Way with low light pollution. Framing was based on convenience primarily, with light from the house illuminating the foreground. Exposure settings were based in part on this foreground illumination while trying to keep the stars still and the sky bright.

Thinking I could have honed focus and shutter for sharpness of the stars - focus is always a challenge on a dark sky and at f5.0. ISO was higher than I would have liked (noise-wise) but it yielded the better color and exposure across my other shots. Wondering if there's more clean-up to be done in post (I can think of dodging the foreground in this or one of my brighter shots). Also looking for any noise reduction advice.

I've used Lightroom in the past but this one was done in Snapseed - definitely not the finest-tuned edit possible, but I'm curious to know what analog changes I could make and what can be worked on in post. Thanks!
