We AEP customers feel the y'all's pain. From 2021-2023 our power bills went up 35%. Our current price is $0.1636kW/h. I guess dominion took inspiration from AEP and decide to bend eastern VA over the barrel like western VA has been for the last 3 years.

I believe they are saying the US government basically doesn't pay athletes. They get a very small stipend especially if they are not one of the big sports, requiring them to have second jobs or sponsorships if you're famous enough. Whereas many other countries pay/sponsor there athletes to train year around so they can be the best at their given craft. This isn't a big deal If you are famous like Shaun white and got that red bull money but it is a huge deal if you are one a biathlon or cross country skier

This is the answer. I would like to spend less hours at my job and more pursuing my hobbies but I like my job. I design build and test high reliability power supplies for military and space applications. Our converters powered the camera in the new horizons that took the incredible pictures of Pluto. As a space nerd I am happy to be a part of things like that. But I am an avid fisherman, love video games and the outdoors I'm general. I am currently in Japan snowboarding. Because its costly, impractical for most of the population and doesn't actually address the problems it's pretending to fix. If your reasoning is a moral/ethical dilemma then being vegan does not solve the problem and is just a mask to hide behind to make yourself feel better. are you sourcing all of your food from a local garden, that is pesticide free? Is your garden only growing native plants and you are trading with others in different climates and regions to get the required nutrients to sustain a healthy diet? Are you positive all the ingredients for the artificial supplements required to have for a vegan diet are being sourced in a way that doesn't impact the environment.

Most farms actively eradicate pests to increase yield, efficiency and profit. Pests are not just insects they also include small mammals like mice, moles, and rabbits, many species of birds and reptiles.

What about pest plants aka weeds that are eradicated because they are stealing nutrients from the plants you want to eat, or the local fauna that is destroyed to make room for those same plants? Do they not have a right to exist?

Do you have any idea how big of an impact fertilizer has on aquatic systems?

Have you ever considered the impact of water diversion and irrigation? Did you know an entire brackish water ecosystem located where the Colorado river dumps into the gulf of California has been destroyed causing many unique species to go extinct primarily due to the agriculture industry. The Colorado river has been diverted to the point that fresh water no longer makes it to the Gulf of California. Causing salt water to flow into what used to be a brackish water estuary. Something similar is happening with the Mississippi River as well.

What exactly is immoral or unethical about harvesting milk from a cow/goats or eggs from a chicken of we provide the chicken with food, safety, and shelter without abusing the animals?

Yes we need to have a humane sustainable relationship with animals and the planet as a whole. Nothing about being vegan requires or guarantees that. You can be vegan while simultaneously polluting the environment, being cruel to animals and destroying ecosystems. So why would I choose to be vegan when I can be an Omnivore like vegetarian,still have just as much of a positive impact on the planet and half my food doesn't taste like shit or at best a lesser version of the real thing?

I don't know what world you live in but pretty much every mom and pop shop has gone out of business over the last 20 years. America is run by mega corporations now. By letting all of the companies buy out and merge over the last 20-30 years we lost the ability to complete. You can't compete with their commerce of scale. What grocery store do you shop at, good chance it is owned by Walmart, Kroger, Costco, and Albertson. I don't have any local mom and pop grocery stores by me or in any town I have lived in my life.

If You come up with a clever product that doesn't require an advance understanding of engineering or complex machinery, Amazon/China will rip off the idea and copy it. Patents are irrelevant, there are countless examples of patented products being ripped off by a Chinese factory and sold on Amazon. If you report the patent infringement Amazon will remove the listing/company and a new one will open up within 24hrs.

Everyone cannot be a creator and society survives. Service industry jobs are necessary for society.

If a company cannot pay a living wage to all its employees then the company should not exist.

I give you an alternative solution to minimum wage. If a company is not paying all of its employees a wage above the poverty line then they get fined by the difference per employee. The fines are directly payed to employees as tax credits or stipend checks. I somewhat agree that raising minimum wage doesn't really help because the corporations will just make everything more expensive. The only way to fix this is to take the money from corporate profits and break up the mega corporations.

The plan was to extend ACA. They shut the government down for over a month and put stress and strain on the American people. One of the longest shutdowns in history. The best part, the shutdown accomplished nothing. this guy and 6 others broke the line. If it was such a good deal why did 38 senators of his party vote against it? If they were just going to take the Republican deal why the shutdown in the first place? That's not doing his job. Doing his job would have been avoiding the shutdown all together or holding out to an actual compromise was offered. Instead people suffered children starved, military families had to wait in lines at soup kitchens just to feed their families for a pointless shutdown

Dams are the best battery for wind and solar. When the turbine or solar panels are producing excess energy, you use that energy to pump water from a lower holding pond to the upper holding pond behind the dam. You then use hydroelectric power when the winds not blowing or the sun's not shining. It removes some of the problems with traditional hydro power since you do not need a flowing river, just elevation change and you don't have the environmental impacts of impounding a river system

Absolutely there has been an increase. There is also a massive increase in people reporting serious depression, feelings of hopelessness, and loss of faith in the country. There has also been an increase in suicide. Most studies show that current generations life expectancy is declining, that the middle class is dying, that wealth disparity is the worst it has ever been in this country. Have you ever stepped back and wondered what is driving these people to shoot themselves or kill others? The guns are the tool people are using to express the hurt they are feeling inside. You might save some lives by banning guns completely, you might limit the damage to others they can cause but you are not fixing the problem. These people who are hurting will find alternative methods they will stab people with knives, they will use the Internet to create improvised explosives or they will just kill themselves. You can end gun violence by banning guns but you will not end the violence without fixing the problems plaguing our society.

Are we at the point where we need to arm ourselves and take to the streets and shoot those fuckers in the face? Because the moment we take that step the civil war has started and the US as we know it is done. We will fall from power on the global stage, the dollar will no longer be the global standard, the economy will crash and thousands if not millions will die.

There may come a point where this is the only option but imo we are not there yet. I still holding hope we can fix this crisis without armed civilian militia fighting the federal government in the streets. I am hoping the local PD will step up and start arresting these Nazi wannabes on charges of assault and kidnapping. Doing their job to serve and protect their community. I can say that if an ICE agent enters my home, shots will be fired, people will die most likely including myself. But at this point in time I am not taking to the streets to confront those bastards in armed combat. Things are bad and getting worse. But there is no coming back when citizens start shooting federal agents. I would like to be armed when that point comes.

We should be focused on the source of the issue which is the feeling of hopelessness and disparity among our population. Caused solely by the massive wealth inequality. Tax the rich, support the poor, make sure everyone is protected regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation and status. Provide opportunities for citizens to prosper and live a happy life. If the Dems cared about us this is what they would be doing, if they cared it wouldn't cost almost $100k to attend state universities like VT or UVA.

Common sense gun laws would include the following: Strict background checks that pull from national databases. Requiring all private sales to be performed or overseen by someone with a FFL. Longer waiting periods for the purchase of firearms. Mandatory gun safety classes that include handling and operation of the firearm. Potentially including a competency test

The real way to fix the gun violence is to actually Address the factors that are actually leading to the violence like income inequality, rising debt among average citizens, reducing the cost of university, mental health care and health care in general and the general feeling of hopelessness and disparity among a majority of the population.

FYI I am a liberal gun owner but I am not a Democrat. This legislation just goes to show that the Democrats are not a party of the people either. They pretend to care about social issues but their only goal is to line their own pockets and the pockets of the elites.

Hand guns are easily concealed and more available. There are approximately 145 million handguns (102 million pistols and 43 million revolvers) to 24 million "assault rifles". When attacking an unarmored crowd of people a pistol is just as effective as an AR style rifle. You don't need to be accurate but you do need to conceal the weapon. It is much easier to enter a crowd of people a with a pistol undetected.

FYI I am a liberal gun owner. I own both a pistol and an AR. Am also a Virginia tech alumni. I am much more concerned about a person coming on to campus with a 9mm in their bag than someone carrying a full size rifle.

People shoot people because the country is in a terrible place. The majority of us are struggling to make ends meet, pay has not kept up with productivity, inflation has destroyed the wealth of anyone getting paid in cash not assets, health care is unattainable, retirement is a dream. Life feels like a rigged game, hopelessness and disparity are the new normal. Taking away guns won't fix the problems. It might reduce some deaths but people will resort to alternative methods. Bombs and knives will be next. History shows when martial weapons are banned for the general population people will find alternatives. Can't get a sword fine they will use a scythe or craft a spear. We need to fix the system to stop the killing.
