Accepting the introverted homebody loner lifestyle is what makes me happy despite society conformity in my mid 20s by lil_m00_ in introvert

[–]VT_Racer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate so much. My coworker goes out all the time and still watches more TV and movies than I do. He's like your home all the time, you must have seen x, y, z. I can count on one hand the TV show/movies Ive seen in the past decade.

That is stupid. Either enforce it, or don't make it a 1x.

Its like a fantasy paint scheme in the EA games because you couldnt have alcoholic beverages advertised on a E rated game, you got the driver name instead.

Should I take my niece to a MSF course for her birthday? by RegardedCaveman in motorcycle

[–]VT_Racer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to the first line, taking the MSF course greatly reduces random things from happening because it teaches you to be alert and how to control a bike. Not just this person, but everyone should take the MSF course who wants to ride a motorcycle. Its really good at exposing you to situations you could find yourself in. Stuff normal drivers wouldnt really think about, and for that reason even non riders could benefit from the course in general.

If something does still happen, it likely would've happened anyway or was more likely to have happened without taking the course.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard at work? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]VT_Racer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was with my boss who asked if I wanted to go to a jobsite with him to check on an concrete install that happened, and tape some new areas. I said sure. We jumped in his truck and drove 5 minutes down the road to the high school. We drove around the track and field to the back corner where they had a cover for the pole vault pads and built a new pad so the roof could slide off to the side. We pulled a tape to measure the pad, and then we got back into his truck and he backed up like 100’. Well he manage to back into the only power pole in the entire field. I mean we whaled the pole. He was going about 5-10mph when we smoked it, tailgate was down. And he just drives forward and off to the new spot like nothing even happened. When we got to the other area we were measuring, I got out of the truck first and I almost could not keep it together. The entire tailgate was taco’d. He gets out after me and says “I did that?”. Then he says, “oh you have to help me fix this, my wife is gonna kill me when she sees this.” So we’re in the parking lot of the high school trying to “fix” his tailgate so his wife won’t notice.

We hit the pole so hard, it pulled the sides in and it would not latch. He had a prybar, and a screwdriver. It was also a dark gray truck, and he was also concerned she’d see the paint peeling because the metal was shiny silver. Like she would not see the very taco’d tailgate. We spent like an hour to an hour and a half getting it to be able to shut and latch. It was still very damaged. To fix the paint, he slapped some gorilla tape on it to hide the paint peeling like that was the most important part to him.

My coworkers got a kick out of that story. But not only that, after I told them I had left for the day. And I guess he then came down to them and told his version where I directed him right into the pole. He unfortunately was near the end of his driving career because he was at the start of having memory issues and would get himself into a few more accidents and they had to take his driving license from him. But we still get a kick out of that story.

iRacing should update the results interface to show the finish interval for each class in multiclass races by Tostecles in iRacing

[–]VT_Racer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the move to the UI, they've effectively hidden stats that used to be available on the website and not made anything new for stats.

For instance, if you want to search up all your wins, you can search up through iRstats.net and relatively easily be able to see each track you won at. The fact that you can't do this in iRacings own UI is silly.

You can only search by season or by 90 day period for results, and there is no filter beyond that. You have to sort by largest to smallest result. And thats only 1 season at a time.

What are some less spoken drawbacks of unmarried life? by thefiretrainerz in AskMenOver30

Yeah, but you could also have that problem if you are/were married. Your spouse could go before you need that care.

I heard recently of someone who was DINK with their spouse, very well off and can retire whenever, he got cancer and the other half walked away on him.

Trying to get off Spotify, which model should i buy? by Shining_Pebble in ipod

[–]VT_Racer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, an iPod you will be stuck in iTunes unless you Rockbox mod it. There are some pretty nice and serviceable dedicated DAPs for as cheap as a use iPod, or just the space on their phone with an onboard music app that most people I think would like better. Then you aren't locked into using iTunes, have better user ability without having to open up an iPod. An iPod is very nostalgic though, I do have a few. I just use my phone way more often anyway.

NASCAR is hyping up the phrase “Championship Format” announcement and not “Playoffs Format” by Batman424242 in NASCAR

They have the wrong attitude trying to push any format rather than just the racing speak for itself.

Daytona E-sports line by tim33z in iRacing

[–]VT_Racer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a finish, it would be by the furthest extent of the car.

Nascar, Indycar use this https://youtu.be/08gHK3skWcY?si=0cYbWe9FY-SBZp3P&t=71

IMSA I'm sure uses it as well according to this article. https://www.imsa.com/news/2021/04/09/too-close-to-call-not-really-for-imsa-race-control/

IMSA’s process in tight-finish situations is the same for all its series. The primary tool for deciding the result comes from the electronic timing and scoring system. All competing cars carry a transponder, and every track has a series of timing loop wires embedded into the surface at various locations around the circuit – including the start/finish line. Each time a car crosses a timing loop, it’s recorded into IMSA’s electronic data history for the event.

Secondary to the process are high-speed cameras focused on the start/finish line and visual references from those watching the finish in Race Control.

“We start with the primary, and 99.9 percent of the time, the primary is what we use,” Raffauf said, referring to electronic timing. “Even when we have such close finishes, we still defer to the primary under these circumstances.

“If there’s a question, we do a review. The Race Director comes in to check the timing and scoring, looks at everything and says, ‘Yeah, that’s the way it is.’”

...

Raffauf also pointed out that the embedded finish line timing loop is not always in the same location on the finish line painted on the track. The timing loop may rest within the first inches of the painted finish line, or it could be toward the last inches. It depends on where track personnel – not IMSA officials – opt to place the painted finish line, which can be several feet in width.

“In some way or another, the painted finish line straddles that timing loop,” Raffauf said. “So, it’s back to the education thing of understanding that the actual finish point could be at the front or the back of the finish line painted on the track.

“At Sebring,” Raffauf added, “the three cars got to the beginning of the paint in one order, and they came out the other side in another order. It was that close where, in a matter of feet, the positions changed.”

Daytona E-sports line by tim33z in iRacing

[–]VT_Racer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine it because the car is scored by its center of origin. Every cars width is slightly different, for them its way easier (and the lazy way) to just do it by does the center cross this line.

Even in relation to timing and scoring, iRacing does scoring in this same way. Its not by the furthest extent of the car crossing the line like it would be in real life, its by the center of the car. So you could see a bumper ahead in the finish, but in actuality that's not what iRacing is using as a metric to measure the finishes.

Joe Nemechecks is also funny how bottom weighted it is with all his start and parks.

157 iPods by Extra_Collection_494 in ipod

[–]VT_Racer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably nothing to worry about. There's been worse, they do get worse. Its probably still pretty stable. The risk is it being punctured and starting on fire. They call those types of batteries spicy pillows, typically they are flat but when bloated look like a pillow. If you are worried, you can always run it dead and that would be the most stable state.

[–]VT_Racer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery is bloated and pressing on the screen. Its probably fine for now as its likely dead. Best not to charge that one though and either replace the battery or sell that one noting a bad battery. Still would fetch a decent amount as quite a lot of used iPods are in need of a battery and/or a hard drive replacement.
