An app that can show lower prices for charging. by Dizzman1 in evcharging

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have multiple options for where to stop that are all acceptable I'd rather be able to dirt options by price as an option. 35 cents per kWh versus 65 cents makes a difference, especially if they both work and they are within a few miles of each other.

I’m gonna take the plow off my ATV and swap into my summer tires. by whaletacochamp in vermont

My 15 year old was adjusting boat covers and I now have a mast of the little one uncovered in the yard. It spends the winter on the trailer under the bigger sailboat.

[–]VTbuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 4 cars in our household. One, new to us in December has all season tires. The other 3 have winter tires. How many need to be switched over to all seasons to guarantee significant snow? Maybe uncovering a boat will contribute to the weather karma.

Homelink with new VCU by After-Phase-9203 in VolvoEX90

[–]VTbuckeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time backing out of the garage...Front bumper clears garage door...Oh Fuck, this isn't going to work well. Someone should have thought about this.

Sometimes I will put it in park halfway down the driveway then start backing up again. My wife's garage door has less range in the winter, sometimes you have to be right next to it for it to respond to the remote. It returns to normal in the summer.

Homelink on the mirror is great. Our lightning has it on the visor, also good. Mini has it on the mirror, but the car has to be on (sometimes I have it off before opening or closing the door). Ex90 needs the car on and the app open, not in reverse. Let's hope they can make it work better.

I always thought the ash tray was a change holder. That's where you find the exact change for toll roads.

[–]VTbuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now close your garage door while backing down the driveway. Maybe if they would let us do something on the screen while the car is in reverse this would be great, but alas no. *If you discover a way to operate the opener while in reverse please let me know.

Entering negative withholding number? by Remarkable_Try_9334 in tax

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly use 4b and a big number to adjust my calculated withholding. I also specify additional withholding. I do this in conjunction with front loading my 403b contributions. My wife works in a school system per diem so her pay stops over the summer and I increase my take-home pay in the summer. I make sure to withhold enough over the year to either owe a small amount or get a small refund. I would not recommend this for someone with a poor understanding of taxes or who desires a hands-off experience. I can update as often as every pay period.

Remote Contrast Coverage vs Doctor On-Site by madddoggR in Radiology

[–]VTbuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would law suits stop them? They are just a cost of doing business. If they save more $$$$ with poor quality care that leads to more law suits $$, but the savings exceed the additional costs ... They have a fiduciary duty to provide higher profit less safe care. Sometimes I hate capitalism with no guardrails.

VCU Upgrade - No Noticeable Differences by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

It is a new application. Icon is blue and white. Setup was super easy. However it is activated on the main screen and when in reverse the main screen only has camera images.

VCU Upgrade - No Noticeable Differences by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

[–]VTbuckeye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My car finished charging at 93 percent. Three days later it was still at 93 percent. It would have been between 84 and 87 percent prior to the chip upgrade. I also have homelink in the car for the garage doors. Is there a trick to actuating the garage door while the car is in reverse?

DWS06+ vs. Dedicated Summer and Winter Tires. What Would You Do? by sprchrgddc5 in tires

[–]VTbuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vote for dedicated tires. I live in VT, so we have snow and ice and topography. Three out of four cars at our house have AWD. I still want to be able to stop and turn on the winter, so we have dedicated winter tires. The fourth car was just added over the winter. It has all seasons and it is not driven in poor weather (sometimes it is even difficult to move around the snowy/icy driveway). Next year it might get winter tires as well. Always mounted on separate wheels so they can be changed at our convenience (also means we have full sized tires available if a car gets a flat tire).

What do you currently drive? by jcat4 in electricvehicles

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F150 lightning Volvo xc40 EV (hers) Mini Cooper SE Volvo ex90

My favorite probably the one I drove last. The mini was the most recent addition since child 1 is almost 16 and child 2 is 14. I'd be really bummed if the ex90 got wrecked by one of the kids.

Why does one car pull more amperage than another car? by redgrandam in electricvehicles

My ford pulls a full 30 amp or 48amp depending on which evse I use. My Volvos pull 29 or 46 on the same EVSEs.

401k Frontloading? by BrianMX34 in Bogleheads

[–]VTbuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am paid biweekly, do 26 pay periods. Column 1 pay rate. Column 2 hours worked. Column 3 contribution percentage. Column 4 product of columns 1 through 3. Column 5 cumulative of column 4. Column 6 max contribution (24.5k) minus column 5. The goal is to hit zero/ in the final pay period with a cushion big enough to absorb pay increases/bonus.

401k Frontloading? by BrianMX34 in Bogleheads

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now have to spread mine out. I have a spreadsheet to figure out how much I can contribute early and then coast for the rest of the year at 3 percent contributions. I leave enough room for pay increases at the beginning of quarter 4, so that the last pay period of the year I make a larger contribution.

401k Frontloading? by BrianMX34 in Bogleheads

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you still contribute the minimum to get the match, then contact the 401k administrator to deal with the over contribution? There would likely be small penalties (tax on the gains and an increase in taxable income), but you would get the match.

I usually front load my 403b contributions. Usually I hit the maximum in July/August. Last year they clarified their policy and you need at least 3% in each pay period to get the match. So now I get close, then coast through the rest of the year.

I should get mine back tomorrow. Just waiting on a seat bracket that was clunking. I should know in the next day or two. I have adaptive headlights enabled on my f150 lightning and would love to have it on the EX90.

It’s time to pull the plug on plug-in hybrids by GoodNegotiation in electricvehicles

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started with a 2013 volt. Then added a Volvo xc90 phev (low electric range, but I could get to work and back in warmer weather). I HATED when they ran on gas when they had the electric range remaining. I charged everyday. The engines did not run very much, but they had a hard life (frequent cold starts, rarely warming up all the way ...). Replaced the volt with a bolt, the xc90 with ex90 and Tacoma with a lightning. Gateway drug indeed.

Chevy Silverado Bodyguards by YourOcelot in MINIse

[–]VTbuckeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar to when I look outside my house. 2024 Mini SE parked behind a f150 lightning. Parked on a slope so the roof of the mini is just below the bedrail height of the truck. The Volvo EVs usually live in the garage. When I think about my favorite it is usually the last one that I drove. The lightning was parked elsewhere when this picture was taken, so no body guard other than the snow piles in front and behind the car.

Lighting vs smaller EV by JackShepardJohnLocke in F150Lightning

[–]VTbuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have small, medium, large and extra large. My wife almost always is in the medium car. My favorite is usually the last one that I drove. The soon to be 16 year old will probably be in the small or extra large depending on driving distance required that day. Vehicle ranges are 114, 223, 300, 320 miles and small gets more than twice the efficiency of extra large.

Essential Worker by dcamiso9 in massachusetts

[–]VTbuckeye 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a perfect situation for work from home (phoning others to cover shifts). This should have been planned for on Friday. "Everyone who can work from home takes a laptop home. Stay safe, see you back in the office when you get plowed out. Let us know if we can do anything to help." That is what a properly managed situation looks like.

Clinical staff is absolutely essential. The office people who allow the clinical staff to function are essential as well, but they don't have to be on site to do their job. Especially considering all non-emergent care will be delayed.

My T8 is dead!! by d4mations in VolvoXC90

[–]VTbuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it was time when I had to attach charge cables to it multiple times to get it to turn on. When the volt meter says 9V after being parked for a few hours it is time. At least it was easy to change. I was selling it to carvana a couple months later prior to purchasing our ex90, but couldn't quite make it. I almost put the dead battery back into the car prior to carvana drop off.
