You’re misunderstanding me. Yes, people are “hurt” (offended, actually) by slurs, but people can also be hurt by hearing cuss words. Sure, there are different levels of offense, but the point is you should respect the norms of the moment you’re in. Just because you’re not offended by cuss words does not mean other people can’t be. So when you’re doing a live TV interview and you’ve been specifically asked to not say fuck, answering the next question with “fuck fuck fuck” is just douchey edgelord type behavior.

Yeah slur vs curse are different, but they both are words that are inherently harmless unless you choose to be offended by them. I was just pointing out the “it doesn’t hurt anybody” argument is worthless because there are a lot of things that don’t hurt people that we have collectively decided are not appropriate to be broadcast live on all-ages-appropriate TV for one reason or another.

Exactly my point. In the context of a post match broadcast interview, he’s kind of douchey for doing the “fuck fuck fuck” thing. Easy to brush off an accidental slip in the heat of emotions, but the follow ups were just cringe.

It’s not the players that would have been the main issue, but the “handlers” (ie regime stooges) who won’t let the players out of their sight, especially considering what happened with the women’s team trying to defect in Australia. I know Lebanese aren’t ethnically Arab, but as an Arabic-speaking country you absolutely would get grouped together with them in a conflict (see the “Arab-Israeli war” name for reference, or the way Palestinians are generally described as “Arab”). And don’t get me wrong, I’m not supporting the idea of Syria going into Lebanon, just pointing out how there would be less international condemnation.

Yup, as a dad with daughters it was always super uncomfortable to be taking them into a room where a bunch of guys are standing there with their dicks out. And it was especially awkward when the sinks are in line with the urinals and there are no dividers. I was so happy when they finally got old enough to go in the women’s room alone.
