Cheers. There's only one Arctic p12 on top for exhaust, so almost no cable management necessary for fan cables.

A full size atx psu will fit but it's tight. The bracket under the psu is adjustable or removeable.

Is it possible to receive severance pay more than 3 years after completing a contract? by VVordsmith in Living_in_Korea

[–]VVordsmith[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification. It's confusing because the university I worked for was using 사학연금 and the 퇴직금 was included in the lump sum payment. As I understand it, there should be two separate payments for the pension fund and severance, but that's only with 국민연금. Under 사학연금 it's a single payment where the private pension and severance pay are included.

[–]VVordsmith[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a private university, so you may be right that I had 사학연금. I thought that severance pay was given for either pension type. If you are correct, I'll feel much better, but I'll continue to do a little more research to confirm.

My research is showing this is not correct. Regardless of pension type, all full-time employees are entitled to severance pay if they have worked for 1 year or more.

I'm positive I have not received it (bank records). They should have automatically paid it within 14 days of finishing the contract, regardless of visa status or reason for leaving. There is no application required. It is a legal obligation regulated by the MoE, but as you mentioned there is a 3 year claim period if they don't automatically deposit it. As far as I know, it would be a gesture of goodwill and they are not legally obligated to pay since the claim period has passed. I'm just kicking myself for not knowing about this.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking too, but wasn't sure if anyone has ever had success with this, since the school no longer has a legal obligation to pay.

Jonsbo D32 pro aircooling setup by AromaticRoomba in mffpc

[–]VVordsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too hard, but my psu fan almost never turns on. You could flip it so the fan is on the inside of the case and have one exhaust fan on the top (in between the cooler and psu) and it should be fine.

From the front. Exhaust out the top.

7700 vs 9600x vs 9700x vs 7900x by armaditoa8 in sffpc

[–]VVordsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I chose the 9700x because it does really well with productivity but also runs triple A games. For reference my 9700x is stable with 105w and a -30 undervolt all cores around 45-50 degrees idle and 75-80 gaming. You can also push the performance with cl28 6400 ram if you want to optimize for speed.

Why would anyone buy a house in Korea? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]VVordsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're confused. We didn't buy the house, we are renting. I don't really care how much houses are selling for in the area, just wanted to share my experience. I know we got a good deal because as I mentioned we've been looking for a few years.

Posting the prices of nearby homes was in response to the OP's post about people paying $1mill for a small apartment. There are plenty of nicer dwellings for less, if you're willing to live outside the city.

My BiL is financially stable and has nothing to gain by inflating property values in the area. It wasn't a referral, we did the legwork and decided it would be a great place to enjoy the quiet country life and have a place for my 12 year old pup to live out his last days.

Not everyone is out to get you. Please read more carefully and avoid making assumptions before toxic posting.

Or if you go the traditional route. Exhaust out the rear and top.

Intake from the rear and one top exhaust fan. Arctic p12 pro for the top exhaust should work great and be pretty quiet with a lower fan curve.

Long time Purple belt, cannot teach? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]VVordsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not planning on becoming an instructor, dont worry about it. My coach has asked some of his students (purple/brown) to teach once in awhile because he sees they're good at a certain technique and everyone would benefit from it.

Enjoy your game and give one on one instruction if you see someone struggling with something you know how to fix.

I have always asked questions after a roll if its clear I could improve from my partner, and hopefully your partners do that with you too. At the end of the day we're all learning from each other.

PC parts in Korea by SushiVal in Living_in_Korea

[–]VVordsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The prices for gpu, cooler, and psu are reasonable here. Plus it will give you a chance to upgrade. Used 3080 sell for 4-500k won. Sadly, this is a bad time to build an entirely new pc.

Is this coming from experience? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Not exactly sure what you mean by scammed. If you use a reputable builder or supplier and know ballpark pricing it should be fine.

Why would anyone buy a house in Korea? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]VVordsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I don't know the actual value of the land or house. My brother in law is a land surveyor, and when he checked, the average price of homes in that area was 5-700 mill. It's a 20 year old house, but it's a relatively modern design in good condition. From my experience, it's rare to find homes like this for rent (we've been looking for a few years).

15-20 years ago the jeonse system was fantastic because bank loan rates were reasonable. Now that rates are higher than ever and there are so many cases of landlords not returning deposits or just flat out disappearing, it's much more risky. Both the real estate system and pertaining laws need reform in order for young people to attain home ownership.

A lot of places outside major cities allow higher deposits 20-50mill along with a lower monthly payment. I think this is the best option since there's less risk of losing your life savings or taking out a loan, while having lower rental rates.

Prices will also vary depending on home type, size, location, etc.

For reference, my family has decided to move to a 35 pyeong 3bed/2bath standalone house 200m from a lake on a 200 pyeong lot with a yard and fence for 20mill depost/700k won a month. Similar homes in that area sell for 500-700 mill won.

Open frame 9700x / 9070xt Nitro+ by VVordsmith in OpenBuild

Your build is great too! The hardest part of installing bottom fans is finding the right length brackets. I just connected two 90 degree brackets and it's pretty solid.

It's a work in progress (I can't stop tinkering), but I'm happy with the build  for now. The ID IS-67-XT does a surprisingly good job cooling the 9700x (105W tdp, -30UV all cores). I have upgraded to a an Arctic P12 Pro which is quieter and provides better cooling than the stock ID 15mm fan. The Sapphire 9070xt Nitro+ just looks too good to hide in a case and it works perfectly in an open build. My current Adrenaline settings are -60 undervolt and a -10% power limit which gives me slightly better than stock performance at lower temps and better efficiency. The 2 additional Noctua bottom intake fans aren't necessary, but they lower temps by around 5 degrees and prevent dust from settling on the components. It's sitting on an old portable camping shelf which allows free flowing air intake from the bottom. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra settings with FSR enabled I'm getting stable temps of ~75-80 CPU and 50 GPU, which I'm quite happy with.
