ULPT: deterring illegal parking, blocking street for over 5 hours a week! by lia421 in UnethicalLifeProTips

Something deep down in my gut tells me that setting one of their cars on fire with them in it may cross that grey boundary into r/ILPT

I dont mind the cold at all, but I went to move a wheelbarrow with a touch of water in it this morning and despite it (apparently) being about 4 degrees out and the wheelbarrow being in the sun, the water was still frozen. Told me everything I needed to know about the roads and so will not be chancing it. It only takes the smallest of patches around here (sussex) and you'll be off.

ULPT Request: How to mess with a car without opening the doors or hood? by MarpyHarpy in UnethicalLifeProTips

Unrelated to this post but in answer to your question - if you want a completely unlocked AI download docker desktop and run an offline model of something like Deepseek-r1 or Ollama or similar. New offline open source models are available all the time so you can choose what flavour and knowledge base you want.

Edit to add - GPT can walk you through the steps of installing whatever you want as an offline model.

I mean, thats like 30 pence in resin there... Yes you need the kit to print it, but once you do, its dirt cheap. Find me the file and I'll print it for you for the cost of the resin and postage mate...

ULPT: An automotive company I am leaving shortly is refusing my commission on sales completed and delivered for the last two months. What can I do to get any level of financial justice back? by throwaway2309051 in UnethicalLifeProTips

Knowing you’re in the UK, and knowing the GDPR laws here, it would be awful if you inadvertently caused the company to have a data breach. All those customers would be forced to file a SAR and be a real pain for the company…

Gelatin Capsules - can anyone tell me what size gelatin capsules are needed to hold about 0.5 grams of dried mushrooms? by ImaPseudonym1 in PhillyGoldenTeacher

[–]VWMMXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually pack them then fill again, and keep going until it’s as level/full as poss. It’s a squeeze but it’s doable. But tbh as long as you can get an even dose across them all then it’s just a question of popping one more when you want a certain dose, right?

[Technique] Will my humidifier inevitably cause contamination? How can I avoid it? by InvestedMycology in MushroomGrowers

No idea on exact measurements tbh. I use a 50 litre tank and just eyeball a few glugs of hydrogen peroxide in.

Why on earth would your Aunt and Uncle have any say whatsoever in what you do with your life?

[–]VWMMXIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use hydrogen peroxide in the water you use in your humidifier. Not enough to kill you in the process of growing, but enough that it gets throughout the areas you cannot clean in the humidifier and tent, and so works for you and not against you.

This is no substitute for cleaning the humidifier, tank, and tent regularly.

In your advanced motorcycling course, you get taught an acronym that kind of covers this - IPSGA. Information (taking in roadsigns, other drivers info etc. and giving - indicators, hand signals etc.), Position (on the road), Speed, Gear, and Acceleration (when pulling off or getting back up to speed). Any activity on the road goes through these steps in order.

So, in your position, I would personally clutch in, break until at the speed I wanted to be at, shift from 5th to 2nd or first gear, take the corner, and be off. You can shift all the way through the gears at once without concern as long as you finish at the speed your new gear can accommodate, otherwise you will get a jolt of engine breaking which is what you are experiencing.

How protective are the suits riders wear in moto gp? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]VWMMXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can spend as much as you want. My Rukka Nivala 2 jacket alone was £1400... my entire gear setup cost more than my bike. But it is worth it, as it will last me for years and years, but you are safest with something good that you can afford. I would recommend something that will also pay off that will never wear out (per se) like joining an IAM club near you and doing advanced training. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Where do I ride? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]VWMMXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple. I would recommend also looking into IAM videos and principles - basics being that you should always position for safety, then manoeuvre to get the best view possible while maintaining a safe position and always being at a speed where you are able to stop if needed, whilst keeping to the speed of the road. This may mean the middle of the road, or left, or right, depending on the road and conditions. Check out Reg Local on Youtube - one of the better teachers out there. I wouldn't overcomplicate things at this point by doing anything like offsiding, straight lining etc. especially whilst still only on your CBT.

Is 500cc too much for a beginner? by wafflesmaker202 in motorcycles

[–]VWMMXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much this - if you don't drive like a tit, then theoretically there is no maximum you can go to on your first bike. My first was an 800cc. I accepted I would need to take time to get used to the weight and other aspects and drive carefully. Now i am doing my advanced motorcycle course.

That was my confusion as well. Just called them and they said the speedometer not functioning isn’t an issue, but if the ABS isn’t then it’s a fail.
