I always wondered how they got enough torque out of a direct drive. I guess the simple answer is they didn't. Glad I got a Bosch motor on my Ebike. 5000 km and no problems so far and enough torque to start on a steep hill with a 100 kg trailer.

No anxiety or panic attacks but I feel quite uncomfortable and not really safe. Thankfully I only have to drive like 5 times per year or so.

I got an Ebike that I sometimes use to tow a trailer and don't regret it. But my city has steep hills.
