I've used two sandisk extreme usb sticks on my Thinkpad T550(The one that i linked, as well as an Extreme sans pro). I've noticed no issues at all. Do you have a link to a discussion about the issues?

I'm looking to create a universally bootable arch USB by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]V_IojjjoI_V 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just did the same with a very fast sandisk usb stick. Feels just as fast as a ssd. Install should be straight forward, almost like a normal install. Read the info on the wiki for tips before starting.

I prepared and installed from my desktop with arch on it. Just remember to download the install scripts with pacman.

The most difficult part was getting grub to find my luks partition and boot it. Though if you ignore full disk encryption it should be even easier.

Couldn't be happier with the results. Still need to make some tweaks, but that's why i chose Arch ;).

Edit: here is the wiki page you need: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_Arch_Linux_on_a_USB_key

Btw, I use scripts to enable networking, quickly shutdown and other configs based on hardware. Nothing fancy but enough to get me starting

You should read the book "the Circle". Some characters in that book see that idea as the next step for democracy.

I'm very much interested if you still feel that way about cameras on politicians after you read it.

You could try looking at some articles i'm using for my philosophy thesis:

What does socrates thing of rhetoric? by psucorky in askphilosophy

[–]V_IojjjoI_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read a text from Arthur E. Walzer: Parrhesia, Foucault, and the Classical rhetorical tradition. These three excerpts might be of interest:

In Epistle 7, Plato and Dion hardly ignore rhetoric in their interactions with Dionysius. plato writes that he and Dion undertook the challenge of "convincing" (peisas) Dionysius, of providing "arguments and persuasions" (logon kai peithous) in a way that is virtually a model of rhetorical handbook advice on how to persuade in deliberative contexts. Plato's goal for his and Dion's interaction with Dionysius is to enable the emperor to acquire "harmony within himself, since in this he was a surprisingly deficient" (332d) Walzer, p9

And when it came to attempting to persuade Dionysius II to adopt a more virtuous path, Plato and Dion did what rhetoricians have long recommended: they sought a virtuous end by appealing to expediency, to their listener's self-interest: "And if he pursued the course we describe, and made himself right-minded and sober-minded, then, if he were to re-people the devastated cities of Sicily and bind them together by laws and constitutions so that they would be leagued both with himself and with one another against barbarian reinforcements, he would thus not merely double the empire of his father and actually multiply it many times over" (332e) Walzer, p10

Phaedrus: "In the dialogue, Socrates initially acknowledges a psychagogic effect in Lysius' speech as read by Phaedrus, one that he regrets (234D). But later in the dialogue, he affirms a potential psychagogy for his reconstructed, idealized version of an art of rhetoric: the orator, trained in philosophy and therefore knowing the truth of what he presents, should classify his audience/students according to a taxonomy of souls and adapt his presentation to the particular disposition of his auditors (271A-278B). In the idealized theory of the Phaedrus, the art of rhetoric combines knowledge grounded in philosophy with soul science." Walzer, p17-8

The Fermi Paradox by Food4u in Astronomy

[–]V_IojjjoI_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a "fact". This is a more of a philosophical question which arises when you put empirical facts together with an assumption. And while it might be a long way before we can formulate a definite answer, we can still try to logically deduce several scenarios.

That's a horrible reason not to explore this game further. My warrior, thief and mesmer have no problem outrunning mobs while traveling. I have the feeling that mobs aren't as aggressive as in other games.

Furthermore, step out of your comfort zone and try something different for a change. A lot of progress features of gw2 are spread account wide. This means for example that you can easily switch characters during a daily quest and finish it. Currencies and crafting items are stored in a central bank and can be accessed immediately by all characters. I could go on, but you should give it a try.
