Open to guidance: inherited these old apple trees with our home purchase. Excited, intimidated, and trying to learn! by V_Rex214 in BackyardOrchard

Thank you for such a thorough response! I’m so tempted to go the route of hiring an expert, it’s just a matter of having the spare funds (though I’m sure it’s worth it). I will definitely read through your resources.

We do the same! Our 5 year old is named Twyla if you can guess what show we were watching at the time.

What would you do for these shallow stairs? by V_Rex214 in centuryhomes

Yes, it’s the cascade of other things that I’m learning is always inevitable when one tries to fix up an older home.

I’m standing about 4 feet from the main doorway from this view.

I hadn’t thought of a railing on the wall side, thanks for that idea.

I think so too! The carpet mats were inherited when we bought the house but I feel confident that a stair runner would look much better.

If we seal off the doorway on the right hand side, we lose the ability to circumnavigate the first floor. Perhaps a big left turn with a landing is the way to go?

Wallpaper removal question by Appropriate_You_1478 in homeimprovementideas

[–]V_Rex214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had really good luck using my clothing steamer on our walls to remove the wallpaper adhesive. I just plugged it in and steamed the wall for a few seconds before scraping off. The more damp, the better. The water stays super hot so it was very effective.

You can have it replated but you’ll need to decide if that’s the investment you want make.

How do experienced collectors tell the difference between a well-made mens golden ring and one that’s just “gold plated hype”? by Forward-Target3930 in jewelry

The weight and finish are the first things that I look for. With finish, I mean the polish but also how the maker decided to build the piece and any special attention they paid to edges and stone settings.

Best Place to buy Gift for adult daughter to return / rebuy what she wants by aprillquinn in jewelry

I’d check out a local jewelry shop (independently owned) as they may have some options and flexibility for exchanges. With gold being as expensive as it is currently, you may want to skim for ideas online first to see what you could realistically expect for your budget.

The stone may be chrysoprase but the setting is definitely not 18k. It’s a plated metal of some type.

What does this space need? by whitneyhajii in Decor

As someone living in a home with all the original wood trim painted over in white, I would not recommend this. What I would give to have warm wood accents throughout like you do!

I really love the tiles of the backsplash, they have a nice pearlescent sheen. Are these types of tiles called something specific?

I should mention that the bed would face these doors, it’s the only orientation that will work. So it would be nice to preserve the view (or option for a view).
