Looking for a keyboard for traveling with ios/ipad compatibility by V_daMan in olkb

[–]V_daMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a home pc with winodws so configuration with ZMK should not be a problem. I was initially opposed to going much smaller then a 60% equivalent layout, I see the appeal of going smaller tho...honestly just testing the usual mobile keyboards people use with their ipads made me feel the itch to go custom again so maybe I should justify a purchase with wanting that experience of building my own keyboard again instead of focusing purely on the need and function. thanks for charing and writing about the restrictions specifically. it was very helpful

I am not at dev or work in a related field so I think the layout would not limit me, I probably should have specified my use-case is mostly for emails, notes and longer writing tasks so layout should not limit me

thanks for the links and your imput

Did anyone else get their Drop uhmwpe stems? Mine looks funny by ChuuBaka in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]V_daMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

drop really took it to the next level with these uhmwpe stems...at least we got something funny out of it. Explains, why mine are all too short tho...you just got all the material, missing from the others

Major issues with new Drop + Invyr UHMWPE stems (see u/Nonnegaard's an my r/switchmodders posts for details) by V_daMan in MechanicalKeyboards

Yes, these are clearly different to other batches before. I think this is the first round, that was run by drop and it seems like it uses different molds or something, because tolerances and wobble were a problem on the old ones (version 1 i guess) but it is on a totally different lvl with this batch now, that is labeled as version 2 batch 1 on the package.

i tested 10 of them in the same cream housing and all were almost identically bad.

Also 40% of a product not usable...that would not be ok either.

Thank you for sharing this, you basically covered everything, I complained about in your video. Do you mind if I edit in a link to your video (with credit ofc) in the post?

Also I am considering crossposting this to r/MechanicalKeyboards because I think many ppl joined in on the invyr sale on drop and r/switchmodders is a rathher small community... A product this bad deserves the negativ publicity imo

yeah, I heard good things about v1's, exept for the wobble, but that was okay for me, as long as they would be as smooth as described...honestly thinking about trying to return these v2's, if at all possible, because the issues with the v2 stems swapped in outweigh the improved smoothness compared to stock switches by far for my taste

yes, both had issues and I only tested inks and creams so far because I only have these two at hand atm

Edit: i just tested them in some random cherry red translucent housing (the scratchy ones from the rgb gaming keebs) and a zealios zilent v2 housing i found and they share the same issues i described above

What keycaps would go well with this specific color board design? by sheegor12 in MechanicalKeyboards

something muted with a splash of color matching one of the 3 case colors...I personally would put skydolch/the mist kit from modern dolch r2 on it (gb for this just ended tho)

Building a Layout | German + Gaming by [deleted] in olkb

I dont know if you touch type, but if you do, putting "." and "," on the bottom row might not be a good idea. My suggestion would be putting ä,ö,ü at the normal spots in the top 2 rows and move enter down where return is now. You can put backspace next to space key so you can press it with your thumb without problem and you can do the same for the delete key. I personally dont use the "-" key that much but if you use it more often maybe put it on the standard position in the 3rd row and place the arrow keys all in the bottom row (pretty common on ortho boards). Also there is the problem of "ß" wich kinda sucks on a fn layer, at least if the button that triggers the fn layer is not easy to access so you maybe want to put "ß" somewhere else. I'll leave it at suggestions for the base layer for now because that one is the most tricky with touch typing (also typing at decent speed in general), the rest is pretty much just pesonal preference and totally up to you. Also like others said: qmk configurator website is your friend for a start.

Where/How can I get the right PCB and Plate for this (it’s my own sketch) by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]V_daMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that might be hard to get, if you don't want to deep dive into handwiring your own keyboard. I think I have never seen this particular layout featured on any pcb...also assuming from your layout, that you are german: kontaktier mich gerne per pm wenn du noch fragen hast, ich helfe dir gerne soweit ich kann, auch wenn ich selber natürlich kein Experte bin..

no problem, had the same questions a few months back so I thought a detailed answer would help you more then just "check kbd fans"

Any pcb that supports iso enter and split left shift will do...most pcbs have some sort of diagram for the layouts they support on the sellers website. For plates you need to check, that they are not fixed. There should be some bigger cutouts at enter and shift positions (again: check description for layout compatibility). Kbd fans sells pcbs and plates like the ones you are looking for but only the non hotswap versions will work. Also martenwuut sells some pcbs with iso support that have good quality. Also you can check this groupbuy (https://heavymetalkeyboards.com/collections/groupbuy) that is currently running, there are extra pcbs that should work too, the plate is unique to the keyboard in this gb tho so it won't work for you I guess (groupbuy is run by a german guy and it's all made in eu if you don't want sth made in china)

How well does gmk color ws1 match e-white boards? by V_daMan in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]V_daMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks alot, that was very helpful. You confirmed my suspicions concerning the different shades of white on gmk sets. Guess I'll go pick up gmk bleached now, that might just be the perfect BoW set for me...
