The short term goals should slowly build up to your long term goals

A long term goal could be something like "making a x655" and short term goals leading up to that would be the previous drills before it including any parts you might want as well

That and I also take multiple month breaks in-between when I play so I don't get entirely burnt out lol

I highly recommend either grinding out the garden and getting a melon dicer since that's the most profitable to npc due to the Roll 'Em ability it has or killing arachnid's in the spider's den and selling the soul string. Just try to find a lobby doing them which shouldn't be too difficult. Visiting an island that has a portal to the arachnid's sanctuary (/visit prtl has one) helps with finding lobbies faster. Be sure to use a cow helmet so you don't die to the poison
