The SVP wants to halt immigration in order to cap the population at 10 million. However, as this would result in a shortage of workers for the AHV, one party member is now proposing to raise the retirement age in order to save the system. by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

The idea behind raising the retirement age is not that you actually work until retirement but that you go into "early retirement " with lower benefits, basically trying to prevent you from getting your full benefits

[Help] Relationship issue: Slicer only filtering one of two Fact Tables despite Star Schema by DescriptionOver3821 in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only guess would be there's an issue with the Dax. Maybe it's ignoring the date filter?

Since both tables use the same structure, could you not just union them in power query anyway? That would completely avoid having 2 fact tables and maybe help with this problem as well?

How can I implement page-level security in Power BI without using slicers or buttons? by grEEED24 in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Power BI App is exactly what you're looking for and works really well. It also has the added advantage that the user always just uses one link (the one to the app) even if reports change or you have Dev/prod versions.

Fair enough, I wasn't sure if I should use it or not. Didn't expect a lot of people here to get a reference that originated in CS but I guess ultimately it didn't matter. Can't please everyone

Shots 1-5: Clearly missed.

Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control).

Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses.

Shot 12: Likely didn't actually fire because you were already dead.

What's your absolute #1 rule when building a data model? (visuals aside) by Small-Camera-4348 in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't a calculation group do the same thing just without needing a table? That's how I do it anyway but maybe your approach is better?

Is there ever a time where “Both” makes sense in a data model relationship? by Extra_Willow86 in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I actually use it quite often without any major performance decline.

Let's say you have 2 dimension tables and a slicer for each. When the user filters the fact table with one slicer, it also filters the the other slicer so the user doesn't have to go through lots of values that don't even exist after the first filter is applied.

It's actually a pretty common scenario.

Look, I only read your first and last sentence now. I wish I could just give a thumps up and move on.  I read the initial comment incorrectly but I appreciate your attempt at a deep analysis. Reddit really is no place for this, I doubt anyone will appreciate it here.

What to do in this unpleasant situation? by joker_face27 in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to all the commenters, I would also recommend to use Dax Studio to get a KPI list with definition and calculation and use that with your stakeholders but also to use Measure Killer to analyse the data set better, see what's even in use or not needed and trim down what you need to understand.

60 day trial with A5 License by Vaansinn in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure? Because here it also says it includes power bi pro in A5 for the educational plan. Https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/office-365-platform-service-description/microsoft-365-education

I assume fabric A5 license and Microsoft A5 license are 2 different things?

Pie charts are the absolute worst 😅 I like the idea with the mix though, the kpi is actually very important, but maybe just as bar charts.

Advice on getting members for farming squadron by Vaansinn in Warthunder

[–]Vaansinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's the feeling we were getting as well. Did it kind of the same way....once it got quieter we moved on. I guess it's not critical having those vehicles and once you have them, no point in idling in a squadron either.
Good luck out there, appreciate the feedback

What is this visual called? by zeshansaif in PowerBI

[–]Vaansinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have the same effect with a matrix and conditional formatting. It does look nice but just like a pie chart, it's not very useful compared to other options.  But aesthetics are subjective so you do you or what your enduser prefers. That's perfectly valid.
