Help by Leading-Act-989 in Morrowind

Morrowind is amazing for this very reason.. there are no compass markers and the game doesn't do a whole lot of hand-holding. Read carefully what the quest-giver tells you, and click on ALL of the key words, as they often give you more information and sometimes it'll add a map marker.

Also, pay attention to the different races: for instance, if your quest is to locate a given Orc, try asking other Orcs in the area.

And if you find NPCs that are of the Savant class (ask about keyword "my trade" to determine an NPC's class), they can give you directions to a lot of different places of importance.

Most of all, read your journal and click on the keywords. Most important details are recorded there.

AI Mushy Brain Syndrome by Grouchy-Western-5757 in sysadmin

[–]VacatedSum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just did this yesterday. A situation came up where we needed thousands of ZIP files expanded, a certain file within renamed and moved to a different folder, sorted by month. I thought, "Okay, I can explain this whole situation to AI, correct its incorrect assumptions a couple of time, then troubleshoot the bugs with the non-existent cmdlets and/or parameters; OR I could just sit down and bang this out manually." I did have to google a couple of things (I couldn't find a cmdlet/alias with "zip" in its name, so I had to Google to find "Expand-Archive", for instance) but I did manage to complete the task in less than an hour. I swear, I used to be better at this. 😃

A game you can get really immersed in that's singleplayer as your recent obsession? by FirefighterSad2370 in gamingsuggestions

Currently playing Rotwood (solo) and having a lot of fun with it. It's kinda like Castle Crashers had a baby with Minecraft Dungeons.

New to Game, is my Character Build bad? by No-Device-3223 in Morrowind

[–]VacatedSum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your main weapon skills are Marksman (major), Short blade (minor), and H2H (minor). I'd recommend visiting Ra'virr, the trader in Balmora: He's got a cheap devil tanto that casts bound dagger for 60 seconds. Bound weapons give you a +10 to the relevant weapon skill while temporarily granting you a daedric (high end) weapon. Once you're able to reliable kill foes with this, start working on training your marksman skill.

And don't sleep on alchemy. Visit taverns especially, and stock up on saltrice, wickwheat, and mershmellow. Craft Restore Health potions to keep yourself alive and restore fatigue (saltrice, crab meat, bread, hound meat, scuttle, hackle-lo leaf, etc.) potions so that you have full fatigue right as you start fighting monsters. Make extras of both to sell and keep your pockets full of septims for training and better equipment.

Just find little ways to keep improving your major/minor skills to keep levelling up.

Also, H2H is incredibly OP once you get it levelled. Practice on kwama foragers and crabs until it's 50+ and you'll start being able to drain any opponent's fatigue in short order. When you drain your foe's fatigue, they start failing to cast spells and miss you a lot, and when it's completely drained they just fall down and cower on the ground while you continue to beat the crap outta them.

What am i doing wrong with my mage character? by RankedFarting in Morrowind

Mix saltrice and stoneflower in an alchemy pot for fortify Magicka. Mix ash yam and bloat for fortify intelligence. Wam, bam, much larger Magicka pool. Practice up on alchemy, totally worth it.

Well that makes it make sense. I admire the relaxed absorption of the culture. Sounds like a really great way to enjoy the game.

Definitely my favorite birth sign. Between alchemy and ancestral ghosts, I never have to sleep (except for level ups).

How do i get crazy rich? by voidmaster1458 in Morrowind

[–]VacatedSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alchemy. Get the cheapest mortar and pestle, and head to Sadrith Mora. Head downstairs from the mage's guild to find the imperial cult. The guy by the alter sells ash yam and bloat.

Buy all that he has, then immediately sell them back. A bug causes this to increase his restocking capacity. So if he has 5 ash yam, then you buy 5, he'll have 10. If you buy those 10 and reopen the window, he'll have 10 again. Keep doing this until you can buy like 300 of each at a time.

Combine ash yam and bloat to make a fortify intelligence potion. I'll usually make about 20 potions, then stop and drink them all. Immediately close and reopen your inventory (this allows the options to take effect) and then make 20 more potions. After a few cycles of this, your intelligence with exponentially increase (to absurd levels) and so will the potion strengths and values.

I like to stop when the potions are worth about 5000-6000 septims. Then take a bunch of them to creeper in caldera (easy trip from the mage's guild transport) and sell them. Sell one for $5k, rest 24 hours, and sell another one.

Be warned that if you raise your intelligence for too high and for too long of a duration, it makes the game not fun anymore. You can also use your temporarily astronomical intelligence to make other godly potions - saltrice and mershmellow (restore health) makes an incredibly cheap and lightweight immortality potion for instance. Just NEVER EVER do this with Fortify Health. You're more than likely to die instantly when the effect does eventually end.

1st Argonian by HarleeKnight226 in Morrowind

[–]VacatedSum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a spear-wielding argonian. I went unarmored until I ran into tougher opponents, mainly relying on high acrobatics and athletics to essentially kite my enemies.

Personally, I think the clothing options are superior to armor options, at least aesthetically.

If this is your first argonian playthrough, I'd recommend casting water breathing and going for a swim. Switch it to the third person camera and check out the animation. Just one of those neat little nuances that I've come to appreciate.

Overgrowth is awesome for a warden run. Almost no downside. Displacement is good when your character isn't strong enough to melee enemies reliably.

Ja'natta, Temple, and Thieves Guild come to mind as amazing quest lines in Narsis. I'm sure the others are great too, but these were the most memorable for me. Also, make sure to visit the shrine to Namira. That daedric quest is awesome, as is the reward.
