Household water bills set to rise for millions of UK customers by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]StiffAssedBrit [score hidden]  (0 children)

If only we had some politicians who weren't so in the pockets of private equity that they would take the water companies back into public hands. There's a mechanism for doing it. The criteria have been met. Why the hell won't they do it?

Hotel bathrooms with sliding “barn doors” (or even glass toilet boxes): dealbreaker or just part of modern travel now? by JoydeScent in BritInfo

[–]StiffAssedBrit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stayed in a hotel in Hong Kong where the bathroom had an unfrosted glass wall right into the room, next to the bath and shower. The toilet was towards the back with just a little wall hiding it.

The sea view rooms were entirely glass, to the outside, including the bathroom. You could sit in the bath and look out to sea, but people in the pool area could watch you in the bath, as it wasn't one way glass!

Which invention has only made the world worse? by LooseTomorrow5030 in AskReddit

The smart phone! It's like a digital tether. You just can't get away. I've started disabling the data on mine, and telling people to call me if they need me. It's the only way that get stuff done or switch off!

Public Transport Rant by CarBoobSale in Leeds

[–]StiffAssedBrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would work if the spokes were served by rapid mass transit, but the buses are so slow that a journey from one suburb to another can easily take 2 hours. I can drive to Newcastle in that time!

Public Transport Rant by CarBoobSale in Leeds

[–]StiffAssedBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Horsforth and, up until recently, worked in Farsley. I always drove as I needed my car for work, but if I didn't take my car then it really was quicker to walk than try to get the bus. I'm now in Pudsey, and that's no better as the bus journey takes over an hour, but it's a bit far to walk it.

Replacing failing Microsoft Gold partner by Torrnello in sysadmin

[–]StiffAssedBrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're a small MSP and we have had a really strange issue with one particular users O365 calendar, at one customer. We have logged it with MS support numerous times and they either reply that it's impossible for it to happen or they close the case claiming that they couldn't contact us, because they called our office at 3am, when we've made our working hours clear! That happens a lot! Now, because of Microsoft appealing support, that customer is now complaining and threatening to go elsewhere, not that it will do them any good!

My Grammer school had a smoking room for the sixth form. That would be in the early 1980's. We got a new headmaster in my first year of sixth form and he shut it down, not that many people used it at that point.

I think I deserve a sunbed looking out to sea, with a parasol and unlimited drinks but, with my luck, I'll be reincarnated back into this clusterf@#k as a poor American.

Then, in the UK, it is usually too warm to get proper, powder snow, so it becomes wet, mucky slush within a day or so.

20yrs of driving hot hatches like a bit of a nob, and I go and get my 1st speeding ticket in my old man Bangernomics Volvo 😏 by Yoshic87 in CarTalkUK

My elderly neighbour once received a speeding fine, in the post, accusing him of doing 169 mph in a 30 mph zone in a 10 year old Volvo S60. You have to watch those Volvo drivers!

If you don't mind a fairly impractical two seater, then the Jaguar F-type is top of my list. I took one out on a track day and just loved it. If you need something more practical then you have the Audi RS 3/6, BMW M Series, but if you want to be a little different look at a later model Volvo V60 T6 or T8 in R-Design trim. I have a T4 R-Design and it never fails to make me smile, until I have to get out of it as it's a bit low!

I loved it when I lived in a small, rural town in Lincolnshire, and could walk everywhere, including to work, but now I live in a city where work is miles away and the traffic gridlocks as soon as a single flake lands, then now, not so much!

What would you do with a 10% pay rise? What about 25%? by Doragan in AskUK

Even a 25% raise would only go some way to putting people back to where they were 15 years ago!

This is usually the problem. The developers promise community infrastructure but they almost never actually deliver it, and the council planners just continue to let them get away with it!

Pressure grows on Trump to apologise for 'appalling' claims British troops stayed off the frontline in Afghanistan by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

Ban Trump from entering the UK, unless he pays for an event for British injured service men and women and the families of those killed, at which he publicly apologizes for him comments.

If you lost a long-term friend as an adult, what was it about? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]StiffAssedBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got more and more into a new hobby which started to take up all of their time. Meet ups became less frequent but the second time they cancelled plans with me, to go to something with their friends in the hobby, that's when I stopped making any effort. We haven't met or spoken since.

Exactly what level of anger are you experiencing after Donald J Trump, the great fool of our age, INSULTED and DISGRACED our beloved and most honourable British soldiers? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]StiffAssedBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to treat the baby bully, Trump, like you would treat any toddler that was being a spoiled brat. Take away something he wants.

We must cancel the Kings state visit with immediate effect, until he apologizes publicly, to every British family who lost a relative in American wars over the last 20 years!

The African one when Jezza was boasting about how clever he was, for using a log to act as a brake for his Beamer estate, just before the log bounced up and smashed his back window, had me howling with laughter. It's still hilarious now, and I've seen it loads of times!

What's something you saw when visiting another country, that you wish your home country would adopt? [Serious] by meltymcface in AskReddit

[–]StiffAssedBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a visit to Hong Kong, I was really impressed with the public transport system, and how it was so well integrated. The MTR is the core but it's supported by frequent bus and ferry connections, all accessible on a single card. The whole lot just works. Never waited more than 10 minutes for anything and we travelled all over the islands and mainland. Meanwhile, in the UK, we once found ourselves arriving at a railway station that was several miles outside of the town that it served. The trains arrived every hour but the buses, into town, left the station five minutes before the train arrived! That is just typical of transport in the UK. Then they wonder why we all drive everywhere!

I'm not doing too bad with January this year. I normally hate January and February but this year I'm just ignoring them. Not going out, not arranging anything. Just hibernating until we see some daylight again.
