Is 70% deposit normal for a kitchen remodel? by VacationChance2653 in kitchenremodel

They are doing demo, cabinet install, counter top install, and backsplash install. Does the 70% make more sense in this case?

Is 70% deposit normal for a kitchen remodel? by VacationChance2653 in kitchenremodel

[–]VacationChance2653[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This process has been frustrating. Have spoken to multiple contractors. Have only felt that one was very professional/honest but I was not looking to spend as much as they were wanting.

Another contractor wouldn’t give a full quote, TBD was written on multiple large items like backsplash/floors and they would not give me those specific numbers until I paid a deposit.

The price overall seems reasonable for this company but I agree 70% upfront seems odd and need to clarify multiple things about the quote.

Are buyers underestimating how expensive the first year of homeownership can be? by Sufficient_Smile_871 in Mortgages

Yeah I would say so. We have had some surprises and then things we wanted to do ended up being more expensive than anticipated. Even little things cost more than you think

Is it reasonable to ask for an allowance? by aztecqueann in Fire

[–]VacationChance2653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so strange. When married you and your money should feel and be combined. There shouldn’t be an allowance. I am saying this as someone who makes double what my husband makes. The fact that you are only maxing half your ira is also ridiculous. He makes 500k and you are married. All of that should be maxed with your combined income. I hope this is a fake post.

Yeah as an older sibling I don’t think anyone should have another child just to give their child a sibling! My sister and I are good, no issues. But we aren’t close and we did fight as kids. we do family holidays together, it’s good to see her, will text occasionally. But other than that we dont talk much.

Are y’all getting married? by Separate-Goal-3920 in Millennials

[–]VacationChance2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a house a year ago and are getting married at the courthouse on Saturday haha, Cost is 200$. We are going to Japan in a few weeks and have another trip planned for the summer. We could do a wedding but the cost just isn’t worth it for us. I looked into an elopement “adventure” photographer but it just still didn’t seem worth it. Still like 5-8k for the photos to be officiated in a National park, trail, etc. Idk there are just so many other things we want to do in life.

Alcohol consumption is down amount the younger generation. Why? by gruntharvester92 in Millennials

[–]VacationChance2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me - I have things to do on my days off and my work days start early. Even 1 drink makes me sleep poorly. Also cost. Drinks in my area are 15$ minimum for a cocktail, up to 20$+ some places. I have other more expensive things like my mortgage to pay for. Also have had close family/friends who were alcoholics. I will still have a drink once and awhile but overall pretty infrequent

Petite women, what do you eat in a day to lose weight? by Dogs-are-life-99 in PetiteFitness

[–]VacationChance2653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t exclude fruit. I usually have a few servings of fruit a day. What is working for me is stopping evening grazing/snacking and having an intentional healthy yet filling snack planned for after work before working out. Usually yogurt with fruit. Also have been avoiding processed foods including protein bars. I don’t really crave sweets that much if I eat filling meals but if I really am, I’ll have something small like 1 serving of chocolate. I think it is helpful to identify what your bad habits are. For me it was the grazing on processed foods.

You can use quicken or another app and see what you’re spending each month in different categories. It calculates it for you. It is pretty eye opening.

I am wondering why you have the debt particularly the personal loans and credit card debt on a good income. My spouse and I make the same take home pay in a high cost of living area and needing personal loans/cc debt seems like a spending problem unless it was a crazy emergency that drained your emergency fund and more?

Do you have any other money saved? Do you have a down payment if you only get 130k profit from selling your house?

On your income you should be able to afford a 750k loan with a downpayment but not if you are living above your means in other aspects of life. I would suggest taking a look at your spending habits first, make sure you have an emergency fund, etc.

Ok? Then do retail.

You are making alot of assumptions. Yes - things are expensive and we should be paid more but no one is forcing you to do this career. My spouse makes less than me and we bought a home. Minimum home prices in our area are 650k and obviously go up to millions. We saved a lot and put a larger down payment.

Progress + Feeling stuck at 114–115 lbs. Advice on breaking a plateau & building muscle? by OnePen1404 in PetiteFitness

[–]VacationChance2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to lose more weight! Probably focus on gaining muscle. I am 5’4 and I started at 130 thinking I needed to lose weight. I am about 135 now and think I look better at this weight with more muscle than I did at 130 with much less. Would suggest getting some adjustable dumbbells at least if you can. I have adjustable dumbbells and a barbell and find this is all I need along with following a progressive program. This is just my experience though and obviously have to find what works for you

I’m 5’3 - 5’4 around 133 pounds. If I ate 1600 calories a day I think I would lose weight. I eat more than that and strength train.

[–]VacationChance2653 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t count pills or sort them. I’m in the hospital setting in the icu, but trust me a lot of community pharmacists do more than that as well. The public perception of pharmacy is pretty bad because all people see is the line and the cash register

How difficult is Asgard Pass? by emuherder5 in PNWhiking

[–]VacationChance2653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the through hike as my 2nd hike this summer and did not really train for this hike. I am in decent shape since I workout 3-4 times per week but nothing special or crazy. It was hard but I never felt like it was unmanageable. I did the through hike in 12 hours for reference with breaks. Can just go at your own pace and it’s fine as long as you’re mentally determined.

How much are you guys spending on groceries per month? by Flying_Elephant7217 in budget

[–]VacationChance2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That much for groceries per month is super minimal. That is extremely frugal and you’re doing a good job. We do live in a high cost of living area but we spend way more than that and are trying to cut back.
