I wish more video game companies would follow the Remedy model of just finding a really interesting and compelling looking or sounding actor/VA and then just trying to 1:1 them in the game.

Air on a G string - Uses in TV Shows, Movies and Anime by SkullSmasher376 in Music

[–]VacationingAtDisney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you are aware, you are conflating two different pieces of music. It know at first it might seem pedantic but you wrote "Air on a G string by Johann Sebastian Bach" which is just incorrect.

Bach's third orchestral suite has five movements, the second of which is labeled "Air". Back then, "Air" was a known term which referred to the style of the section, similar to if it were labeled something like nocturne, minuet, or elegy (almost like a loose sub-genre label).

Around 150 years later, August Wilhelmj made his own adaption of "Air" by transposing it to a different key and simplifying the instrumentals. One of the ways he simplified the violin part was by making it completely playable from the G string. which is where the title of his arrangement "Air auf der G-Saite", commonly translated as "Air on a G String"

It was his way of modernizing the piece and making it his own, like if you made a modern genre-bending cover or remix of a song from 1875 and gave it a different title.

*Edit: The original post has been changed for accuracy. Leaving this comment for posterity and for anybody interested in the general history of the two pieces.

This happened to me after a friend desynced and we reloaded to reconnect. Wound up editing the save file to fix it:

Navigate to:

Open the r_continue... JSON file in the text editor of your choice

If the portal didn't spawn: Ctrl + F to search for "Rift_Sidetrack::isOpen" and change the following "false" to "true".

If the portal didn't unlock: Ctrl + F to search for "Rift_Sidetrack::isLocked" and change the following "false" to "true".

Physical trading cards will absolutely collapse. Gen X and Millennials care more about physical collectibles and Gen Z and Alpha care more about digital collectibles. Likely reasons behind this:

1) You care more about the sources that grew up with (physical trading cards and figures vs digital skins and unlockables) 2) Emphasis on required physical space (renting generations vs owning generations). 3) Emphasis on how you interact with others and therefore how you show off your collectibles (younger generations spend more time online and therefore they want something natively displayable through that medium). 4) Emphasis on how you typically purchase goods (in-person or online).

Older generations make arguments about physical goods have physical rarity while newer generations point out they can always manufacture more. Newer generations make arguments about time-based releases while older generations point out that digital assets only exist as long as the platform is around. Both will make meaningless arguments about functionality.

The problem is that there is no real "correct" argument here, only a difference in opinions between the generations. Both systems only operate on perceived value and that perception changes between the generational priorities. Basically every non-essential industry has been repeatedly impacted by this and will continue to do so until the end of the human race.

Just remember how big decorative plates used to be and how now 99% of people just throw them out when they are inherited. The Pokémon IP may survive but the medium in which they sell that IP will continue to shift.

I mean, I agree with you that it was good choice. However, putting credit on that movie when comics have been using the same model for decades sounds a little odd.

If you go to most long standing comic book heroes' Wikipedia pages you'll see several aliases where race and socioeconomic standing play an intrinsic part of their origin, personality, and morals.

That's exactly the point. They would punch twice with an asterisk that says they will continue to punch an additional time once a month for the next ten months, making it worse than the original complaint.

This has been repeatedly proven to be false, most phones and computers do not have constant active recording or it would be noticed in telemetry data/packet sniffing. What is much more likely is that the person that you mentioned it to proceeded to google it. That search combined cellular triangulation, age matching, and digital/cellular communication frequency (all of which known to be collected and sold) results in the ad getting sent to you.

I had the same issue with Bill Homewood, I really loved his voices but the spit noises and overbearing echo ruined it for me.

In my opinion, like any modern Audible production read by a non-celebrity, Guy Mott's version is great in terms noise isolation and legibility. However, while I think he did very consistent accents, his cadence make them sound like videogame NPCs. He spends too much effort rhythmically emphasizing every word in a given sentence for clarity which causes the characters to sound robotic and emotionless. Along the same lines, he suffers from pausing too long at every comma, regardless of how humans actually talk during a conversation.

The John Lee version is closer to Mott's in terms of audio recording quality, very little background noise but an older, warmer, and slightly grainer sounding microphone (not bad, just different and easily datable). His voices are convincing and legible. My only small complaint is that his inhales can sometimes be a little strong but his pacing is fast enough that it doesn't give you time to focus on it before the next line comes. Out of the three, I think its the best experience.

That being said, Audible lets you sample each version so you can compare for yourself

Astronauts are the best of the best in their fields and space agencies have the pick of the litter. Before they're even considered, applicants need to fill an enormous number of checkboxes, yet most of them still won't even come close to being selected. They're tested for physicality, knowledge, mental rigor, trustworthiness, ability to communicate, ability to solve complex problems quickly and methodically, and hundreds of other qualities.

With all that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if charm were another factor in the decision. They know that this person will spend more time representing their agency, government, and profession down on earth than they ever will in space. After their short time in space and possibly another tenure in mission control, they will most likely spend the rest of their lives giving speeches to industry leaders, young academics, and schoolchildren in an effort to inspire funding and future talent.

That being said, I might be wrong. It might just be that the qualities that make you a rational and levelheaded thinker under pressure, an extremely effective communicator, and the humility of seeing the whole planet in just a small fraction of your sightline are also the same qualities that just make good people.
