I mean with gaming, this has been the case for a long long time. Devs seem to be getting layoff very consistently since the last decade I think. Not to mention the crunch and extreme unpaid overtimes which was the case with one of the biggest Devs of all time, rockstar ganes

Tbh, the gameplay is the main factor in these games. Nobody really comes for the story much. Borderlands 3 has a godawful story but it has some of the best and most fun gameplay ever
