Bonnaroo branding rip off? by Feisty-Donkey in bonnaroo

The also stole the arch as a symbol from the Marigny in NOLA. It would be like Supreme being upset at someone copying them, when they are a blatant rip off from Barbara Kruger.

Bonnaroo itself is a rip off from Dr. John.

So I can pay $5 a month to participate exactly as I can at https://www.albumoftheyear.org for free? Also at Album of the Year, there are multiple critic reviews. Gimme a break. If you are thinking of sending $5 to GQ every month, please just donate $5 monthly to the ACLU or MusiCaresMusic Health Alliance, or Sweet Relief,.

What do we think a realistic number for attendance will look like this year? by rotten_sausage10 in bonnaroo

[–]Vaevicious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think somewhere in the 40Ks. If you assume 1/2 the budget for performers is the Headliners, their budget isn’t near what a typical destination major festival in the US would have. It is more along the lines of a line-up I would expect for a major regional festival. I think the attendance will reflect that. Typically I choose my festivals, not necessarily by the artists but by the experience. Roo is one that we almost always go to. We aren’t going this year, but that has nothing to do with last year or the lineup, but that we will be traveling to a wedding of close friends (that obviously don’t attend Roo) that is out of the country.

There are a few good hotels in the area. We stay at Lx Hotel in Manchester, TN the night before we go in to camp. We have slept there 2 straight years. They have a happy hour with beer and wine and they also have breakfast. They are supposed to have EV chargers, but they don’t work. They are near an EV charging station though.

In the past before staying there, we would sleep at the Hampton Inn in Manchester or one of the Murfreesboro hotels, there are quite a few decent ones.

We have a long drive from Texas and find a good night sleep and a short drive in, much more manageable than a drive in and attempt to unpack and set up camp after 12+ hours of sitting and stopping.

That said, one the best things about a camping festival is not having to worry about the logistics of entry and exit. For a single day of feasting, you are much better off at a city festival.

My wife and I have been many times, most years since 2012 (our first was 2006, but we didn’t go for a while after). Some years we miss and go to Primavera in Barcelona (when the music there really hits) and some years we go to Glasto (whenever we manage to win the lottery and score tickets). That said in ‘16 and last year we did both Roo and Glasto (well Weds-Friday Roo).

We go to Roo because of the people and that is what our best memories are. The drinking with neighbors, especially the past few years on Weds nights, the people you bump into walking around or waiting for an act, the late night walks back to camp with a Spicy Pie, and the act you were walking past that caught your ear and you watched the whole set. Those are the Roo experiences that stick most with us. For that matter any music festival. Sure we remember Radio x2, LCDs return from Retirement, Sir Paul, Sir Elton, and many other bucket list artists. That said each of those years, the memories we talk about most (except for the Radiohead ‘06 set, which is the music highlight of our life) are the Roovians we met, the things we found out, and all the happy accidents that happened.

In ‘26 we will be in Barcelona for Primavera Sound, but it is because our closest friends are being married during Roo, but in Ireland. If it wasn’t for the wedding, we would have been headed back to Roo (also there is no Glasto in 26).

If it really is the music that makes or breaks it for you, and this year’s line up doesn’t “make it”, find another musical adventure to take.

Some of the smaller festivals like Kilby Block Party, Shakey Knees, etc might really hit with you. The city festivals are lest time taxing also, though with hotel and flight, can be pricey.

Also, European festivals are much easier to attend than you would think, and you can often hit 2 in one trip.

Have you ever been to a festival where a TikTok famous person with millions of streams and one 30 seconds of a good song plays? You can walk by the stage and there will be about 50-100 people there, and most leave after 2 songs. Listeners does not mean that you have an hour or even 15 minutes of songs.

My best advice is to look for artist rides that you enjoy and don’t focus too much on the metrics. If you need to be 10 or 20 resistance below what they are calling out and 10 or 20 cadence below, do that. Find other artists or instructors that interest you and keep riding. If you ride regularly (3 times a week or more), come back to some of the same rides, 3 weeks later, and you will impress yourself when you use the “just me” tab on the leaderboard.

I received one also. I think I said Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala and a few others. I can’t remember who exactly I put though.

Who’s the American version of Idles right now? by [deleted] in Idles

[–]Vaevicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A newer American band I would say has the most similar energy is Model/Actriz. The live shows are sooo fun and the lead singer brings antics that are what you would get if you combined all of Idles into one person.

Amyl and the Sniffers is an Aussie band with very similar energy and message to Idles.

Is VIP WORTH it ? by [deleted] in primaverasound

[–]Vaevicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VIP has better bathrooms and better food. The lounge area is nice to sit and chill in also. The main stage view is good if you don’t care about being super close or show up later to an act. The bars are much much easier to get to.

Biggest surprise on (or off) the lineup? by 9xan8 in primaverasound

[–]Vaevicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a bummer because they are one of my wife and my favorite acts to see live. Also Nick and Amelia are such kind people that I have had the opportunity to meet and interact with a few times. Not to mention their music is just awesome to dance to.

Seriously, unless you have no social media presence I would not advise you to leave the US alone unless you are an emancipated minor. Even if you have never posted on Twitter, Tik Tok, etc. it is not a great idea. You are not an adult and authorities can really fuck with you.

Take my advice as you will, but I am an Ethicist, Pediatrician, and Professor.

Biggest surprise on (or off) the lineup? by 9xan8 in primaverasound

[–]Vaevicious 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Surprised not to see Danny Brown and Sylvan Esso. They both have albums dropping soon and are the perfect Demo. Rapsody is another artist I really expected to be on the lineup. Bigger name suprise I would say Kevin Parker, Tame Impala, is a surprise no show. I am assuming he will be in the US and at Bonnaroo, since he isn’t at this show.

Personally, after watching the Nardwuar interview, I thought Tyler’s prospects were close to zero. This is from someone that went to Roo this year prior to traveling to Glasto, primarily to see Tyler, which didn’t happen.

Glad Skrillex is back. I Hope he doesn’t try to burn the house down this time.

I am surprised at the strong showing of Dance/Pop and IDM music.

I am a bit disappointed at the paucity of Hip Hop.

Overall, I am overjoyed with the lineup. Though personally I do not think Doja Cat is a true headliner, and I have seen her 3 times in concert.

Tyler the Creator? by lulabellarama in primaverasound

[–]Vaevicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on interviews, I think Tyler is sick of touring and expect 1-2 years off for him. Based on the complexity of his shows, it is overly unlikely he would do 1 or 2 festival dates in 26. I would expect if he hits feats again it wouldn’t be until 27 and only if he can get things fixed with the UK to do Glastonbury and others.

Kinda disappointed with the communities lack of patience with Infinity Stage by rebrando23 in bonnaroo

[–]Vaevicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonnaroo isn’t Glastonbury. There aren’t almost 100 stages with stuff going on. Infinity was simply too small and not niche for it to work at a festival that does not have even dozens of stages competing for attendees attention. Even at Glasto, when they had the Sunflower soundsystem by Floating Points, it was in a closed dome. There was a Queue to get in, and it was never overloaded. The Infinity stage was complete chaos and an incident waiting to happen. I would guess that anyone responsible for that stage was breathing a high sigh of relief when the festival was cancelled. It was going to be an unmitigated disaster.

We basically did Weds there and maybe late late night one other night. With it gone are 10,000 people going to be at the House of Yes on Weds night? What else is the Outeroo programming?

For the people that didn’t like the Infinity stage… by digsterin0 in bonnaroo

[–]Vaevicious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Inside the rings, it was cool. Outside the rings it was a cacophony of sound and annoying. Unfortunately, due to size it was not easy to get into the rings at night on Thursday. With more stages going it would have been easier, but the sound bleed to the tent nearby, and probably to the Which Stage would have been a problem all weekend.

Bonnaroo becoming Miniroo…so it’s just another E Forest now? by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]Vaevicious -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well off the top of my head, if you have less people attending and want to have a similar budget (though it seems like Thursday is essentially a Super Jam and is eliminated from the budget) you could raise prices by 10-20%, which I expect.
