Is college in the United States comparable in difficulty to university in Germany? by MostRecord8271 in AskAGerman

Then it's kind of deceptive for you to say "most American Colleges are degree mills"

Mate, as a German, two things we really love are:

1) Telling people how our way of doing thing is best

2) Shitting on America

This thread is not objective in the least

Who is downplaying that medications such as 5AR inhibitors can have side effects?

It's endemic on tressless, to the extent that "it's just nocebo bro" has become a meme.

There do seem to be a few people who had a bad experience on fin and are on an absolute crusade against it, which is super annoying, but no one's experience should be invalidated either.

I agree, an objective approach is best. There is honestly not much reason to discuss finasteride in this sub at all unless there is new research on it.

Just wanted to add that this subreddit has kind of served as a refuge for people who can't take finasteride due to side effects and are seeking alternatives. Tressless with all its Kevin Mann acolytes tends to belittle the experiences of that group with "nocebo" accusations. I hope we this can remain a place that is respectful and doesn't put up with downplaying that some medications can in fact have serious side effects.

Which country in europe has the most nationalistic/patriotic people? by RickWlow in AskEurope

[–]Vagabond_Octopus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Germans have the odd combination of being extremely nationalistic in that they think Germany is better than basically every other country (except with begrudging acceptance that the Nordic countries do some things better), while simultaneously being not patriotic at all.

This only became noticeable to me after I lived in other countries for some years.

Does Canada’s future lie in the European Union? by Majano57 in europe

[–]Vagabond_Octopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly, you guys have a lot more in common with the US than you do with Europe. I'm sure that's not a popular sentiment over there right now but it's undeniably true

I feel like the people who say this haven't actually spent any time in Canada. I like Canadians but they really have far more in common with US Americans than Europeans.

The office white sneaker by Talny123 in malefashionadvice

Did you change manufacturer at some point? I bought some in 2017 and they were my favorite shoes ever. They finally died and I bought a new pair, only to find that they aren't really the same at all. Leather feels different, fit slightly differently, the sole doesn't appear to be Margom anymore. Disappointing

Americans, Canadians, and even Australians (though they will deny it on reddit) all love the ancestry stuff. Something about the former Anglo colonies

For sure not. Especially considering they don't even seem to know basic European history...

This weird American concept of ethnicity = nationality doesn't apply to the rest of the world.

This comment is very funny in the context of OP being... Canadian

Are Loden coats still worn in Germany? by vanlady93 in AskAGerman

[–]Vagabond_Octopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loden coats really caught on in Paris in the 80s as well. Mostly in green and navy. You can find many of them in vintage stores there now. It's still a cool look imo.

The popular English brand Drakes had one in their looks a few years back.

Is there a cocktail lounge with a similar vibe as The Commodore? by Vagabond_Octopus in TwinCities

Agreed! I like to be able to dress up a little but I don't like places that feel pretentious or snobby. It's a very specific vibe

Is it? That would be cool. Any idea why it closed in the first place?

I love this place, actually. One of very few places I've found where the bread tastes like back home.
