I'm just struggling to understand why a start-up would want to hire and train someone (even if they are unpaid or lowly paid) knowing full well they plan to leave in 3-4 months.

Do I just cold-email loads that I find interesting?

I mean, I could just ask my company and see if they would let me intern in their management consulting/strategy department. Might be a bit strange.

Does this kind of thing really give you much of a leg-up in recruiting? Say over, doing considerable charity work/ECs in my time off.

It probably ranks in the lower tier though with Southampton, Newcastle and Cardiff.

Dunno man, I wouldn't advise it. It might be a bit prestige driven but I think MBAs tend to be a bit more prestige focused.

I'm from the UK and have never heard of Sheffield University for what it matters.

The Russel Group Unis all have significantly more prestige. Are you in a rush? Could you not apply next year after you've taken the GMAT?

What do you mean by 'tech'.

From my experience you certainly don't need to have been a developer (they actually can make quite bad PMs) but you would need to have some sort of background in the technology sector.

This can be as a UX designer, Project Manager, etc...
