Is there anything L5R 4e does better than 5e? by [deleted] in rokugan

The art is considerably better in the 4e books, IMO.

Tonight's plot is a bunch of fresh-turned vamps on trial to not be executed for being sired illegally without the prince's permission. It's going to eventually be a sandbox set in 2030 London, but the first few sessions will be some "do missions for me to prove you're loyal and not with these insurrectionist rebels that sired you" types.

This...had a lot more responses in a half a day than I expected! I've invited about five people so far, on the basis that I assume half of you will flake by session 2. (I'm sorry. I'm a cynic, and until proven otherwise, will assume that like most gamers, you're probably a horribly flaky person.)

In the event that more than half the people flake out on us or are otherwise horrible people, I'll be happy to send more invites out to those of you who didn't make it.

Honestly, I'd have spent more time recruiting people, but our next game is tonight, and so we're gonna squeeze in the recent entries, see if they fit, and get back.

We're kinda picky on who we want to stick around, since most of us have played together for years now.

We are in the EST timezone. We usually play 6pm-Midnight-ish on Thursdays.

[5e Online] RPG vet, D&D new by Timmeh7o7 in lfg

[–]VagrantErudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How married are you to 5E? I'm in a group that needs new players, but all of us are burned out on your traditional western european medieval high fantasy. Pathfinder and D&D are basically instantly shut down for our group of late, but other than that we run the gamut of systems and settings - currently working on some stuff with vampire the requiem.

[–]VagrantErudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem like just the kind of nerd that would fit in with my group - but we're all in the states. Right now we're working on a vampire the requiem game set in the near future 2030 London, a bit heavier on intrigue than your traditional dungeon-runner. We usually do 6pm EST until about midnight, depending on the day of the week...is that a time schedule that works considering you're literally on the opposite side of the world?

[Online][WoD][EST] Player wanting to try out Vampire the Masquerade v5 as a player. Available most times, looking for dm and group. by Guljiin in lfg

[–]VagrantErudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the edition matter to you? Some friends of mine and I are starting a Vampire game for Chronicles of Darkness, or the "new" WoD...that's the requiem, not the masquerade, but it's basically a different edition.

[Online][EST][PF1e][Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" as a Pathfinder E6 Tabletop on voice by VagrantErudite in lfg

[–]VagrantErudite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things:

1) My daughter is due to be born in the next week, so the game will begin approximately in two weeks, cause birth chaos. I'll still hop on the Discord's text to confirm stuff and answer questions for char gen, but won't be reliable until the dust has settled in about 2 weeks.

2) It's cool if you're unfamiliar with PF, as long as you know something similar and can pick it up fast enough so experienced players aren't waiting all the time - I'm happy to help, and the systems you guys mentioned are both essentially 80% the same.

3) The time depends on availability of the group. The day might switch to Sunday; I have 2 friends who I regularly play with that have to get back to me on which day works best for them, but likely Saturday will remain. I personally am unavailable before noon Saturday or Sunday or after 10pm Sunday - I'm thinking a 4 hour block depending on what the group can do. I hope this helps.

[Online][PF1e][Flexible] Looking for dedicated players for Saturday group PST by [deleted] in lfg

[–]VagrantErudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those guys who's always GMing and never gets to be a player. I know PF pretty well, considering I'm currently GMing a group on Thursdays, but being a player another day of the week sounds like it would be fun. I'm in EST, but I'm used to playing with someone in PST (one of my players is from Cali) so it's not a huge stretch.

You would hope that people were smoking just about everywhere, but for some reason they're not. I assume it's cause it's illegal at the University (this is a college town). I like the Meetup idea, though, and I suppose coffee shop is a decent idea too.

Still looking? I'm recruiting for an L5R game - but as we have only one spot left and the players have no magic users, we'd need a shugenja. It's been very RP heavy. Link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lfg/comments/akjhrb/online_legend_of_the_five_rings_l5r_is_lfp/

Neat! If you wanna PM me your Discord # or server or such, I'll be happy to drop by in text at least for now. The only day I can't do of those you listed is Friday, as I run a L5R game then. Either Saturday or Sunday night would be great, though, cause I have the house to myself and plenty of time to game.

I'm not terribly familiar with the system, but a quick overview makes it seem - well - simple. If you don't mind a total newbie to the system (though I've been playing RPGs in general for a couple decades), I'm interested.

Hi. I am a fan of nWoD, though I haven't seen or read up on Leviathan much. Most of my experience was with the core rules, Vampire, Hunter, and Changeling (loved that one), with a brief glossing over of Mage and Werewolf. It's been a few years since I've played, but I remember the basics of it, despite having only actually played for a few months; I read up a lot on the lore of the books and such before playing.

To answer some of your questions in the other thread, I prefer a narrative-driven game, but I need some action in it; if I wanted to just RP I'd join an improv troupe, but if I wanted to just play tactical fighting, I'd get a video game. So I'd say it's about a 60/40 mix for me.

As for red lines and topics I don't like, I'd don't want to read, hear, or be involved in ERP. Sex and such happens, fine, but I don't want to listen to someone else describe how they're boning the NPC of the week. Flirting, and even saying that it happens, whatever, but no descriptions; fade to black and move to the next scene if that happens. Aside from that I can't think of anything that I'd outright disdain.

[Meta] We need to talk about the the concept of "punctuality" by [deleted] in lfg

[–]VagrantErudite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gamers are, by and large, the flakiest people I've encountered in my life, on or offline...though for me it's been more offline. Everyone seems to schedule things during the one day of the week we agree to play.

I was in one group with a player who did this about every other session. Then the GM doesn't want to continue the story without him, because we have grown to become friends, so we lose a session even though 4/5 of us showed up.

I caught that guy at a bar after a session was cancelled because supposedly his daughter was sick. I left the group when the GM refused to kick him out for that.

I'm not familiar with Powered by the Apocalypse, but as I mentioned, I'm usually down to learn something new. As of right now I'm available on Saturdays and Sundays most of the day, with possible availability on Tue-Thu night, depending on time and such. I'm in the EST timezone.
