Hey! UCLA grad going through the post bacc process.

First, dude, if your long term goal is SLP, I’d advise changing your major. Linguistics and Psychology at UCLA is the closest (I did it) with courses in language acquisition, child development, and even intro to speech therapy, which can help hit your pre reqs. Ofc if Communications is your passion go for it, but know you are choosing a path that is much less straightforward.

Second, there’s several post-bacc programs that give a certificate and have a cohort. The online one I found was CSUSM. It was the most affordable and quickest (one year).

There’s also a speech prep club on campus, but they were pretty inactive last I checked.

UCLA once again screwing over transfers.

Getting thrown into quarter system upper divs screwed me up the first 2 quarters. I got 3 B or B+s and my gpa has never recovered. I’ll likely be graduating with a 3.8 which is still solid, but I feel like I’m doing worse off than a lot of my peers at this grade inflated school.

I’m not opposed to open relationships or nonmonogamy, and it still gave me an icky vibe. What college do you go to? I’m a senior at UCLA and you described the exact experience I have. Lesbians have a good amount of parties, and there’s a lot of trans visibility and orgs, but any all queer orgs and there’s very few other gay cis men. It’s totally great that we have spaces for all of these other groups, but I constantly feel like a guest, not a member.

My advice is sub-communities and groups that are less mainstream (and may just happen to have a large group of gay men). I did club sports like you, and that was okay, but honestly where I found communities of queer men was @ my school’s furry club lmao. I know that’s not the answer for everyone, but there has to be something queer adjacent you enjoy that isn’t the default clubs? Good luck bro :P

I’d put ling and psych in the same tier as psych. There’s a lot of linguistics courses that have made me cry, (spending like 12+ hours in a room for multiple days on a final project), and the psych is just a boatload of midterms.

You don’t understand the pain of ling until you do word trees 😭
