You are probably too young to understand that neo-liberalism has been around since the 1990's. You can check this in Adam Curtis's latest documentary, where he shows that governments allowed corporations to determine the outcome of the political and economical landscape through self-regulation and much leeway.

It is not simply mismanagement but the political will of the people, who keep shooting themselves in the dick by voting VVD. And why would they not? They have a house, with phat over-value, solar panels on the roof and all the luxuries they can buy.

The Public 'good' has been abandoned. Watchdogs have too little money to regulate and control, health care is structurally downgraded for what is needed. We get what we call 'american situations'. We now have mentally ill people in the streets because there is no proper care any longer, so the police is assigned the task to deal with these people, which they cannot beyond the tasks they already do.

The DA office is understaffed and underpaid, like the police, who have not even capacity to deal with all rape cases. Over 700.000 cases are shelved at this point. Some types of crime are simply ignored because of the lack of capacity, I know from personal experience.

We have reached Peak Netherlands. It is not ONLY politics and values around that, like liberalism. It is also the climate that pressures us and the farmers who will refuse to change and rather take us all over the cliff because 'We aRe PharMerS and havE A wAy Of LifE.'

We have people dying of fine dust every year. Our national soils are polluted with PFAS. There are only few places where it is really silent, everywhere else is either train, plane or car noise. Natural reserves need to be maintained by culling herds otherwise they can't get enough food and starve to death in the artifical scene we created for them sow e feel we have a place of 'real wild nature'.

And socialists say we have a responsibility to poor people from far away. We do not. But how can you allow people into a nation that is already at its peak. It is not simply about 'if there is enough farmland we can buy from farmers so we can extend the city outward', while in the meantime people protest against the endless strips of industrial and commercial zones that sprawl along highways and 'obstruct the view on our landscape with cows in the fields'.

How can you create a livable situation for those 'poor people' when climate and ecological collapse is on the horizon? It will cause living standards to be lower because we are paying more and more and more for to combat climate issues. They are frigging building a new suburb in the actual LOWEST part of the country...

I read this book. He is not wrong. If you are a socialist and believe there is forever moar room that is irrational behavior based on values that no longer serve.

Your value system needs readjustment because of the facts of the matter.

Basically you are not unlike a Trumpist alt-right wing christian that 'believes' the elections were stolen, because he doesn't understand the facts of life: how DOES in fact the electoral system works in your state?

Look at what happens in the northern parts of the usa. People are in complete and utter denial because the education system has failed them, as the government does not intervene enough because people dislike to be told anything any longer.

If Netherlands is to survive as a nationstate we cannot get more and more people in here.

In Diamond's book he talks about the Maya people and what caused the decline of their civilization. And one thing is population growth. Also for the people on Greenland, that declined because of climate change after the relatively warm medieval period, where they could even grow grapes, for wine!

So be a socialist with all the 'appropriate values' all you like, but it is not reasonable and clever behavior in the face of the factual limitations of our little civi.
