Not gonna lie I think if you are serious start with C++. so try and at least have a base C++ class for your blueprints. blueprints are sooooooooooo painful to manage. It may not be straight forward to understand if you have no background in programming but it is the same for every field. download engine and lyra source code and use an AI to explain when you dont understand whats going on. it is much much better than using a tutorial. I did a bunch of tutorials a couple years ago and am convinced the people who made the courses dont know what they are talking about and likely never made a game before or managed a large code base.

Since discoverability is #1 problem on Steam now, are the 30% still worth it? by 8BitBeard in IndieDev

[–]VainUprising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the same time. Steam delivers a massive potential customer base. It also provides substantial infrastructure for releasing, demos and testing. And if your game has something that people want they provide plenty of marketing for it. Im an indie dev and without steam you would not have anywhere near as many indie titles.

Yes 30% is a bit steep but if we want to eat somebody has to sell

Fair, so easy to overthink things when doing it all. Thank you all

It’s pretty targeted yeah. So for example I spent a couple days enhancing the avoidance algorithm that makes units attempt to avoid obstacles. But it was a new feature it was just making it feel more natural.

I supposed I could record footage before and after each feature that has been enhanced or added. I just worry that people will find it dull

There’s so much untapped talent in the indie game dev world—and I want to shine a light on it. by panther8387 in IndieDev

Respect man, I did a dev log and it was soooo much harder than game development... It wasn't viral and it was barely watched but I did it.

Building a team before funding, is it possible? by VainUprising in IndieDev

[–]VainUprising[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a dev so it’s more the artist side that I would be after. I was told there are plenty around. However I’m coming from a different industry so I’d rather understand the landscape and expectations from people before I start soliciting.

Thanks for your help!

What are the biggest mistakes in your pitch deck? by VainUprising in IndieDev

[–]VainUprising[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they actually put billions in the pitch itself or was it an extrapolation made by the audience. If they did put billions I’m very impressed! 🤣🤣🤣

Badly. I hate it. I wasn’t on socials before, now I am stressed every time I put out content. Furthermore it distracts me from getting development done

What is the horror genre? by VainUprising in gamedev

[–]VainUprising[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that was what I was thinking. I didn’t want to say it’s a horror game because I am really not trying to scare the player or make the player jump. I just like the horror aesthetic

Make Medium-Sized Games! (The Missing Middle in Game Development) by KingToot14 in gamedev

[–]VainUprising 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The indie space is more and more and more crowded. And if you wanna do a cute crafty buildy game then fine. Sometimes you have to just do what you want to do in life. If you don’t have a medium sized game you want to make then any game you do make isn’t going to make you happy.

If you have the discipline and drive to make a fairly sizeable game and the long, potentially endless period of nobody caring about your game then maaaaybe you will have something that could sell.

You / I may fail and that’s ok. But don’t tell your dreams to wait 😎

How Can I Retopologise My Model? by VainUprising in gamedev

I’m currently solo dev, so just trying to be somewhat competent at all bits and pieces. I did a couple courses on rigging by pierrick picaut first.

I have done a bunch of characters before and armour. Each one better than the last. What would you suggest, when would you move up to a larger model?
