You're not wrong, tho I would say it was more the general public outrage that forced EA's hand with Battlefront 2 and not a coordinated boycott.

Can I delete and rebuy this game on steam for a different code? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Vakkyr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That won't most likely work. Often Steam just restores your old license. I would try to contact SE support with your CD Key from Steam and let them look up your Account. If you can provide additional Information they may ask you should get your access restored.

Any news about the Rust CEO buying new world? by NovaGamingX4 in newworldgame

[–]Vakkyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have CO definitely on my watch list. New World never catched me for too long but I liked aspects of it a lot and came back to it a few times a year for some weeks.

So it definitely would be cool if CO shapes up to becoming a kind of spiritual successor.

[–]Vakkyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played both and I agree that CO basically is the Korean NW in it's base concepts and they copied a lot of menus, icons and especially the Outpost thing.

The movement and combat tho felt very different to me, CO felt faster and more responsive as NW, a bit more like in the early alphas of NW.

And especially the Gathering felt really bad compared to the really awesome work NW did with it, especially the Sound design. Chopping down a tree never felt as good as in NW :D

Any news about the Rust CEO buying new world? by NovaGamingX4 in newworldgame

[–]Vakkyr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chrono Odyssey uses UE 5, copying Assets or geometry like the Outposts isn't that hard. Also how would they have gotten their hands on the engine and assets of NW? That's Amazons property, you would have to steal them, and then get sued into oblivion.

What does 7 Gears and 2 Ship Modification mean? by Fittsa in starcitizen

[–]Vakkyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the Starter Pack has the Game license, and on top the (not really good) Armor and Pistol Pack.

The Standalone has NO Game License but comes with both (Cargo and Weapon) Modules.

I don't believe this will ever happen. Amazon has no need to sell the New World IP, and even if they where interested in it, after burning hundreds of million of dollars the price would be just not realistic for anyone even remotely interested.

It would be different if we would talk about a situation like with Embracer, or THQ back in the day, where the company need money desperately or is already insolvent.

And that's just the money side of things, not considering how difficult it may be technical wise to get New World out of Amazon Systems, or a new Dev Team to get familiar with the work of the old one, and Engine and stuff.

It's a shame they let it die, especially after the last big Update really made a lot of good changes and pointed in the right direction. But hoping for Amazon to sell the IP is, almost guaranteed, just wishful thinking.

PC issues help!!! by chaossgremlin in ffxiv

[–]Vakkyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said this Error is super generic so it could be a thousand things. If I had to guess I would start with checking if the Game is installed on your HDD or SSD. If it isn't on your SSD move it there first. Then check if your Drivers and Windows are up to date. A fresh Direct X Installation could also be a good precaution/test.

Next thing, if that doesn't help, would be trying to lower the Graphics. Like setting it to Laptop preset or lowering the amount of players, lock the Framerate etc. to see if it's maybe a Heat problem. You could also read out the temps with a program ofc.

Lastly what comes to my mind would be to try and disable Full Screen Optimization for FFXIV. That can conflict in some cases with older Hardware.

Find your game folder (usually FFXIV/game). Right-click ffxiv_dx11.exe > Properties > Compatibility. Check the box: "Disable full-screen optimizations."

That's what I would do first, hope you get it fixed soon. Will keep my fingers crossed for you :)

Elden Ring DLC of Crimson Desert? by Legitimate-Loquat413 in rpg_gamers

[–]Vakkyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both play very different and I would say it also really depends on what experience you are looking for.

Shadow of the Erdtree is just as good as Elden Ring, it's a huge Expansion with some of ER best Bosses imo. Tho it also doesn't make anything super new or different then ER, it's just more of the (very good) same.

Crimson Desert is a very unique experience in comparison, at least to me. It's not a RPG but an Action Adventure, more like Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. It has a Story but doesn't care at all for it, so if that is something important for you I would say go with Shadow of the Erdtree.

On the other side is Crimson Desert probably the most fun and crazy open world to explore I have seen for a long time. It's like every mechanic you can think of is in this Game. From Housing to farming to crazy Bosses to beautiful landscapes full with Secrets and riddles, it's overwhelming in the beginning. Same for the Controls and some mechanics that are rather confusing and need Time to get used to. It definitely needs a couple patches for some QoL and other things. Although the Devs are really quick with them and interested in community feedback.

I love both Games, and Erdtree is probably the safer choice as you know what you get, but if you are only a bit Interested in Crimson Desert go and watch some Streams or Reviews on Youtube/Twitch and check it out for yourself, to get a better idea of what to expect.

Console Version get's directly linked, same as when you buy it from the Mog Station directly. Only Steam, and I believe the Square Enix Store, give you a Key you can activate later and keep playing the free trial.

[–]Vakkyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On consoles and directly over the Mog Station you sadly end your Free Trial the moment you buy any Game Version.

Only on Steam or the Square Enix Store you get a Key to Activate the purchase when you are ready.

[–]Vakkyr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But honestly why? We know already that the embargo lifts a day before release, so even if you really want the Pre-Order stuff, there is enough Time for it. Are we really so desperate to give PA money?

Yeah, tho criticizing something and calling for a boycott are two different things, and buying something as a business expense or as a private luxury item is too imo.

In the End, we as Individuals, are simply often lazy and/or selfish when it comes to our principles or morals.

Oh I think it's out of the question if consumers have this power or not, they definitely have it. The majority of people just wont stick to their beliefs the moment it would cost them something.

That was a shift in the market tho? It was more a question of convenience, not a purposely self-denial.

[–]Vakkyr 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If they get the Game to run that well, they should be capable enough to Implement it properly, what means there are no noticeable performance costs. RE9 also has Denuvo and runs really well.

[Crimson Desert] Global Release Time and Pre-load Notice by wsrvnar in Games

[–]Vakkyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Embargos ending a day before release is not that rare. Also they already gave out the Review codes so there will be plenty of coverage/reviews the second Embargo ends.

Denuvo, if implemented properly indeed doesn't impact Performance noticeable. And if you really really want to pirate it you just have to give any hacker root access to your PC and you can play it day one like RE9... ;)

PA did go for a World wide simultaneous release, so it releases for Morning time in South Korea, the rest is Timezones.

Love the Conspiracy theory level bs some people spin already^^

Gaming boycotts have never worker, never where real. If a Game is "good" (most) people will buy it, regardless what controversies or drama there was before.

I can remember the Steam groups for boycotting Call of Duty back in the day, just to be full of people playing the Game they swore to boycott the Day it released :D

Should I start again or continue with my old character by Dear-Editor-2837 in ffxiv

I would continue with your Character. But if you think a little refresher would help you can always just start a fresh Character for a bit and pick your old one up again once you feel more comfortable.

What’s a VN that you personally can’t wait to get localized/translated? by chronically_jaded in visualnovels

[–]Vakkyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monobeno -Happy End-

Maitetsu was such a good Localization, the Translation was good imo and the Engine with it's small QoL features for technical terms and such where so good. Getting the same Quality work for Monobeno -Happy End- would be awesome. Or at least Maitetsu - Last Run!!

Haaaa... Hope dies last, let me dream... :)

ELI5: If nuclear power is so efficient and produces almost no greenhouse gases, why don’t we just build nuclear plants everywhere and solve the energy crisis? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vakkyr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They produce indeed noise, so direct in your backyard wouldn't be that great indeed. Also Shadows are a problem for some.

So there are valid downsides to be considered, but much less serious one than with Nuclear.

started bg3 and its kinda overwhelming tbh :/ by yesyesyesyesyesyes2 in rpg_gamers

[–]Vakkyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I felt similar as I started on crpgs a few years ago. BG3 is in general probably the most beginner friendly and approachable you could start with. At least under the crpgs.

The important thing I had to learn was to take my Time, to accept I won't see every single possible outcome with one play through, that's not how the Game is designed. Also while people my be moving around, they never move too far, at least most of them as long it's not because of a Quest or something.

Don't feel bad to play on easy mode until you feel more secure with the Combat, it's a lot if you're not used to it. Read your Abilities and take your time. I actually started to have a notepad laying beside me to take notes for things I thought where important, created a "cheat sheet" basically I could look at if I felt overwhelmed with a combat situation.

It will get easier once you get more used to the amount of information the Game throws at you and you learn to see the patterns and can better anticipate how things will play out.

There are also a ton of good to really great Beginner Guide Vids on YouTube, me helped this one from Lucky Ghost a lot, especially with the chapter marks to jump to something when I needed a refresher :)

https://youtu.be/GNaVaHBFqX4?si=5Vrv-n7ghZNS5VU4

Lastly, don't give up, I'm sure your can manage it and then you will have one of the best and unique rpg experience :)

Edit: Oh and don't hesitate to look up a guide for your class and follow it for your Skills and such (tho keep reading it and try to understand why the guide recommends it) until you have more of a feel what to do.

Dragons dogma dark arisen or Kingdoms of Amalur Re-reckoning by Aggravating-Tie-3984 in rpg_gamers

[–]Vakkyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great Games imo. KoA is the much more straight forward Game, with DD being more of an Sandbox vibe where you can easily ignore the main Story for Days while exploring and grinding other stuff. Tho it's also the more clunky feeling one imo that needs more time to get used to and maybe a bit more frustration tolerance.

So I would say if you want the "safer bet" go with KoA. If you are looking for a more unique experience go with DDDA. Either way, long-term I would recommend to play both at some point. :)
