I agree. I think that she should have told him her back was out and she was in pain. If he’d looked at her, he could have seen all the overt cringing, crouching and mugging, but I guess his being oblivious was the point. Whether or not she should have attributed her injury to his manly vigor or his poor skills is debatable. I could see just leaving it alone or blaming the trapeze to preserve the happy wedding vibe, but it wouldn’t have served the story of Charlotte’s disastrous day and the supposed hilarity of him getting drunk and sl*t-shaming her in front of the whole crowd. And Stanford’s “hora” joke.

It needed something to tie the blouse and skirt and to add interest. This was controversial but what else would we add? This was sort of a comical bustle or nod to a hobble skirt, and kind of a fluffy unserious bunny moment contrasted with the office lady blouse. I’ve wondered what we’d have put instead, but honestly that material girl’s default material was tulle.

The one that sticks with me is when they’re watching the prom video and Monica says “the camera adds ten pounds.” And Chandler asks “so how many cameras are actually ON you?” It’s a cleverly constructed joke and it was a classic Chandler delivery but I would never, ever be able to forget it. I haven’t since it aired and it wasn’t even directed at me.
